Revealed: All-New 2008 Mazda6

Priddy’s sources indicate that the 6 will be powered by a new 250-horsepower 3.5-liter ‘Cyclone’ V6, and it’s almost certain that the car will see a less-powerful four-cylinder (perhaps a 2.5-liter). All-wheel drive availability will no longer be the sole preserve of the Mazdaspeed variant, which should give the 6 an edge in foul weather climes when compared with much of the front-wheel drive-only competition. Down the road, a hybrid model is expected come on line, with the same 2.5-liter that’s expected in the 2008 Fusion.

someone pleeeeaaase tell me that car and driver is smoking something wayy too good...
Unfortunately, the U.S. model, which may see the light of day at either November’s L.A. auto show or the Detroit auto show in January, will wear different sheetmetal. We're also told that it could ride on a completely different platform that the Euro-spec car. According to Mazda, this is because the North American car needs to “look bigger.” Car buyers, it says, think the current car looks too small in relation to other mid-size sedans.

yeah its called "crack"
companies dont build the same car and have completely diff styling for it for diff countries...expensive much?!!!
persoanlly i think the 3.5 wont be in any more mazdas. its my personal belief....warning......incoming opinion, as in, not fact,.... that ford wants the 3.5 all to themselves and mazda said screw u we can do one better, and made a 3.7L
i think the mazda6 will be a 2.5l 4 banger and a 3.7l v6 with awd somewhere in the mix. my only pity is that the next ms6 will prolly be a beefed up version of the 3.7 which is a pity bc the last ms6 was heavy enuff!
all in all, its nice lookin, ill allow it on the streets, theres far worse driving around.....

You pretty much have to go with what Zoom44 says. You give him the benefit of the doubt and all others the doubt.
Remember that australian guy who has pretty high status on this forum who says Mazda is putting an end to the rotary FOR SURE? Well when Zoom44 provided information that the rotary will live on, you pretty much place your bet on what Zoom44 says.

The tailights do not look like the Avalon's. The Mazda's taillights are also more elegant and compliment the body lines better. The Camry is not bad for such a convoluted styling, but the new Mazda 6 lines are smooth all over.

Mazda might very well be poised to make this car a 200,000+ a year seller in the U.S., at least that's what you'd think by looking at the design. Honda reverts to Hyundai styling (very unexpected of them) for their 8th gen Accord, and Mazda goes from the '02 626 (which looked like absolute bland dog crap) to the great-looking '03 6, and now this. I'd say that they're ready to be independent from Ford; and when that comes so will the 4th gen 7.

there is a good chance that that c&d is right about different sheet metal. rewmember that whole "americanization" thing they were talking about a year or so ago. its entirely possible still that we see a sort of "american/euro accord" thing happen with the 6 .
however i would also think that since we have seen this version in many disguises the last year that we would have seen some pics from priddy et al by now if there was an otherly styled one around.

it'll all be fun and games until ppl who buy the car go into the dealers for service and realize- holy crap, what have i gotten myself into? is this for real? <LOL>
overall, i still believe that mazda has a long way to go and has a lot to learn- as far as dealer cust service goes... they can make and sell u a hot car. they just don't know squat about how to take care of customers after they make the sale.

There is definitely some truth to the ours will be different rumor, but I don't see why having ours be larger would mean the styling would be different. Its not like its getting 5 inches longer, I would think an inch wider and an inch longer would easily mesh with the styling cues here.. unless you had them side by side they would look identical.
As Mazda isn't exactly the richest company on the block, even as well as they do financially, it also seems weird to spend a ton of money to make two different cars stylistically.
I'm still more of a 3 person, so its kinda mute, other than I want them to sell the **** of out it. With this design language, can you imagine how cool the new 2010 3 will look? We know thats a world car.

This 6 will steal major sales from Camry, Accord, Altima, and also taking a bite at IS250, TSX, TL, and G35.
The AWD system (hopefully rear-biased) is gonna be the deciding factor for many buyers. Everyone wants AWD now, and you just cannot find it in the cars I mentioned above, except for IS250 and G35, but these two cars are quite a bit more expensive.
