It's a Cavalier
The new 6 is a gorgeous car. Knowing Mazda, it will drive as good as it looks. The steering wheel is a little wonky, and interior a little boxy, but overall, I really like it. Damn good job.

Well Mazda folks should read the Car and Driver's first test of the new Accord in this month's issue. It should give them heart that their new 6 will beat up on the Accord and keep the C&D trend of liking Mazdas.
C&D goes onto complain about how tepid styling of the Accord, especially the front and how its just ballooned into an almost 300C sized car. "32 going on 64" was one of their final comments--in reference to how long the car has been here in the US but how the car feels now in comparison to what it once was.
The Civic and Accord designers are clearly on different planets.

MNAO better not screw that up. The NA version had better be just as good looking (if not better) sip just as little fuel(or less) have AWD and have much more power(with the 3.7 it will)

The more and more I hear about this "Design for America" the more I get scared we'll have a situation of the European's getting the better end of the deal than us. Hopefully Mazda hasnt lost its marbles and ***** and wont fully subcribe to the full Americanization. I dont want people comparing the Mazda6 to the Ford Fusion or the Camry in terms of size as in how similar they are in overall feel and ride quality.

The steering wheel is cool. Steering wheels are an easy way to differentiate and to say hey we're about the future instead of the past or present. Honda has done it. Nissan did it before that, but in a Nissan primitive sort of way.
Also, take a close look at the Sebring's steering wheel. I don't want to sound STUPID but I think BlueEyes, Bassy, and NoPistons will agree that Mazda copied the steering wheel straight from the Sebring's.
BTW, last night I was behind a Sebring on the road (quite possibly the first Sebring POS I have ever seen on the road; boy do I feel sorry for the owner) and I couldn't help but laugh. I don't want to sound DUMB or anything, but for a split second at first, I thought it was the new Mazda 6 but quickly after I thought it was a Ford F150.

I wish they would have kept the same style of steering wheel as found in the previous gen. I love the shape of mine, just with a slight improvement away from the cheap plastic is what I would liked to have seen.

Eighteen months into his job as Mazda's design manager, Laurens van den Acker feels like "I've landed a F1 seat in a good team."
"I don't have to fight for what I want - it's a well-oiled design machine and I now have the luxury of putting my foot down, pedal to the metal," he said.
Working for multiple brands at Ford previously, van den Acker said that the refreshing aspect was that "you work 100% Mazda instead of not being sure whether it was Lincoln one day, Mercury the next and Ford another day.
The new 6, unveiled at the show on Tuesday, had largely been signed off before he arrived.
"I really like its boldness and its exquisiteness," he said. Its boldness comes from the strong front end which captures the spirit of a sports car like the RX-8 in a saloon.
The exquisiteness is the attention to detail around the lights, especially at the rear.
Every new Mazda will share those themes, he said. "We're searching for our soul and getting close to it now," he said.
"Our challenge will be to become even more distinctive which is essential for a small brand like us." Part of that challenge will be to improve the proportions of future Mazdas. "That affects platforms so it's a big challenge. The new 2 [Demio] is a great example of how we can do this, now we have to do it for our other models."

Sweet looking car on the outside. They better do something about that interior, cause somebody got stupid, and it f*cks up the overall look of the car. They need to go black leather and be more conservative overall. Make them weird looking brownish panels black, the white trim needs to go Black too, or offer an option to do so. Just too many odd colors and cheapish look going in the interior, at least "cover" it up by going black or something...

That was exactly my fricking point. . Three idiots have argued vehemently that the rear end of the new Mazda 6 and the Sebring look amazingly similar when in fact there is almost nothing similar. The steering wheel comment was sarcastic. You need to read the thread from the very beginning. Your comment is kind of like when veterans here demand noobies to do a search before asking a stupid question. You are a veteran who should read the entire thread before making a stupid comment.

Yeah, I it's a lot more refined looking (grown up) when compared to the 2007 Mazda 6.
This will be the car we get in Australia, have not heard if we are V6 or MZR 4, probably the "new" larger 4 cylinder job.
I like it, BUT reserved a little until I see it in the flesh.
When compared to other Japanese makes Mazda are in another league.
Mitsubishi have completely lost the plot with their new Lancer when it comes to style inside and out.
Had a glimpse of the new Mazda 2 (gold) at a local dealer, it will sell well.
