Yup. I love the Exocet concept. Ultimately, I discarded the idea though.
It's great, but not for me. Basically, if you remove the body and the frame to replace it with the Exocet body and frame, then remove the engine because I wouldn't want to keep the BP engine, especially with a much-easier-to-swap frame in place. I'd also end up going tubular subframes front and rear, and then control arms, because might as well replace it all while I'm at it. On track, I'd end up with a fuel cell, and that would mean saying "might as well replace the rest of the fuel system too with race worthy stuff", safer and lighter. I'd be replacing the hubs with blueprinted ones for track, and probably the brakes too. The interior would obviously be completely gone, as would everything electrical, the factory gauge cluster.
Frankly, the only part left that I would even be able to use from a 'donor miata' would be the steering rack, steering column, brake lines, rear diff, and axles. So basically, there would be no point in converting the MSM into that, because virtually nothing would be reused. It is literally an entirely different car, so sits in the "buy a different car for the track" option. And when looked at that way, it is also perhaps the most expensive option of any of the track options, with a $25,000 estimate being probably not high enough, $30,000 might be more accurate.

Retuned. Not much peak gain, but if the lower comparison line is the first pull of the day at minimum boost, and you can see the torque climb angle. The tuner added quite a bit to the front end of the torque band, more rapid spool. He compared it to my highest run on the stock turbo (202whp 197wtq peak), and I'm spooling 700rpm earlier, holding boost more easily, and holding torque hugely better. The torque 'curve' before was literally just a single peak.
I haven't driven it yet, on the alignment rack. Should be quite a difference.
The peak numbers are also less favorable SAE correction than before, and still what is supposed to be a low reading dyno. I'll be on a Dynojet in August to see what the comparison actually is. So I'm ignoring the numeric values at the moment. Too much uncertainty of how they compare.
My tuner has a Dynapack as well but it's not a low reading dyno like most people assume. I only dyno'd like 4HP higher on a Dynojet in much colder weather. Most of the people that do back to back runs on his Dynapack and the local Dynojet guy are within a couple percent.
I added more vents to the hood today. Not overly aggressive in appearance, but increases the amount of vent area by about 2.5 times, and all of the venting is in the critical area of low pressure above the hood and high pressure under the hood behind the radiator.

The MSM finally blew it's engine almost a year ago, and since i had/have zero inclination to put in a replacement BP motor, in any form (built, used, new, whatever) ... I sold the drivetrain out of it. Everything from the turbo, motor down to the axles. Well, a few pieces left, but the big stuff is all gone. The chassis is sitting in one barn now, and will be sitting in another shortly, where it probably hibernate gutless for another year or more, 2+ years is entirely likely.
Then it's going to either get something with a '13' in the name, or something with an 'LS' in the name.
Honestly, an LS is more likely at this point, but not entirely ruling out a 13b, in part due to the huge availability of wrecked LS hardware here. Time will tell.
Yeah a non VTEC LS is the way to go if you are considering boost.
Not for the next engine. I love the math of boost, the result of boost, but the more i increased the power from the MSM through boost, the more i disliked the more subjective nature of driving the car. I'd rather have the same power i had before without boost than with boost. Doable at cost with a PP 13b, or even the lowest powered LS engines could do (there are three of those in the same barn where the chassis sits now, though the guy who owns them is egging me on to put in a 6.7L cummins in it that he also has ...)
