Hyundai's interiors aren't going to compete with Audi, but why would you realistically expect them to?
The Genesis Coupe's interior design and quality is going to be no worse than other cars in its price range like the WRX, Z, Camaro, Mustang, etc.
Remember, this car is going to have a starting price in the low 20s and top out no higher than the low 30s.
The styling is not what I would call elegant or classic, but it's not hideous either. It's distinctive in the same cartoonish way that the Supra and FD were.
The new Porsche C4S has 12.9" brakes. The Genesis Coupe's Brembros are a 1/2 inch larger. Hyundai did put some effort into this car, and you can't deny them that. Of course it won't drive like a Porsche just because it has huge brakes, but that wasn't their target.
Their target was the G37coupe, and it seems they succeeded in delivering a a G37-like experience for about $5-6K less. Again, if I had to choose between the two, I'd take the Genesis Coupe. It won't be embarrassed by the G37.
Seriously, give credit where credit is due. Who thought we'd see the day when you can get a RWD Hyundai with 4-piston Brembros and a staggered wheel/tire setup from the factory? Pull your heads out of your asses and compare apples to apples. The Genesis Coupe was not meant to compete with BMWs or Audis. It will do just fine against it's intended competition, which is other ~$25-30K sports cars.

Call me an #sshole, but the inside of Hyundais always felt cheap ( I just recently looked at them at my dealership) and this looks like a next gen Tiburon to me which isn't bad looking but still reminds me of the Hyundai of old (cheap).
They need to get away from anything that resembles their older line-up if they want to change their image, but there is no denying the Genesis' power. If Honda could come from it's humble beginnings and change it's image then maybe Hyundai can too.
But until they come out with a brand new look and nicer interior, I still won't buy it. Not hating, just my .02

I agree too, when I first saw the car at the autoshow , i couldn't belive how cheap the materials were, not to mention the car had a terrible orange peel paint job in places that shouldn't be noticable. Like the fenders, bumpers, and rear 1/4 panels, its very unacceptable to have this on a brand new car .
I am trying to warm up to the exterior, but that goofy drooping rear 1/4 window looks odd to me IMO.

That rear window is an interesting styling feature, but it's functional too. It significantly helps rearward/outward visibility.
Also, why would you judge the final product from a pre-production model that was at the L.A. Auto Show? Give this car a fair chance, people.

Something I missed earlier...an additional R-Spec model building off the Track model...
So seven basic Genesis Coupe configurations:
• 2.0T
• 2.0T Premium
• 2.0T Track (6-speed manual transmission only)
• 2.0T R-Spec (late availability, 6-speed manual transmission only)
• 3.8
• 3.8 Grand Touring
• 3.8 Track
An even edgier R-Spec model will be four-cylinder only, and get stripped
of many creature comforts luxury coupe buyers expect in their rides. It includes all
of the performance goodies of the Track model, without the luxury fixings from the
Premium. The R-Spec trim is aimed at tuners and should be the ideal starting
place for any customization.
{Car and Driver}
"Turbo-four models will ... generate 220 horsepower on premium fuel (210 on
regular) and 223 lb-ft of torque, all while returning a respectable 30 mpg on the
highway. If those numbers don’t sound quite like what you’re after, there’s hope;
according to Derek Joyce, Genesis coupe product manager, Hyundai “could have
opted solely for big performance numbers, but our focus for the 2.0T was a more
balanced package.”
Translation: once tuners get their hands on the four-banger Genesis, all they
need to do is turn up the boost and “unbalance” things to their heart’s content. "
... Track and R-Spec gets 25mm front stabilizer bar, 22mm rear stabilizer bar
(vs. std. 24 mm front and 19 mm rear)
... body-bending rigidity that's twenty-four percent higher than a BMW E46 M3!
also for the 3.8:
Vehicle ...................Length Curb Weight (lbs.) Horsepower Power-to-weight ratio
Genesis Coupe 3.8 ..182.3............3402.............310 (est.).....11.0
BMW 335i ...............181.1............3571.............3 00.............11.9
Infiniti G37 .............183.1............3616.............330 .............11.0
***By starting this thread I'm not implying this is the be all end all of sports
cars out there, however...it does look as if Hyundai as joined the small group of
car companies applying money and talent towards the the performance market.
And in the case of this car, it's not just a refried POS Turbion or Mitsi Eclipse
either, but a genuine attempt at something worthwhile. While many will diss
Hyundai as a cheap me-to manufacturer not welcome in the performance car
market...who would have thought they could produce a car of the Genesis sedan
quality and abilities for the luxury car market a few short years ago?
I say take your sports cars where you can get them...and be damn thankful for
each and every one actually produced in this world of eco cars and vaporizing 401Ks...
at least at the low end of the price spectrum. Heck, this car is exactly in the RX-8
price range, if not demographic range as well. I'd wager it will end up being as
much a competitor as the 350Z was (is) shortly in this segment.
The fact that they are sticking their (performance) heads out,
no less at the car's into, to produce not only two TRACK models, but an R-Spec
Turbo Four is to me a Grammy Award winning step for Hyundai!

But your right, hey its a heavy rwd with 300+ HP, woohoo. .... been there done that with the 350Z. If i am going to spend 30k or just a little north of that mark, I am going to go for the 370Z with a better interior, more power and some serious heritage behind its name , than some coupe with larger brakes than a Porsche 911.
If this car was priced at 25k then Hyundai would have carved a sweet spot in the sports car market. At 30k , and lets be honest, nobody is going to get this car for 30k, after tax , tag , title, destination fee, etc. plus dealer mark up , the new owner will be out of pocket probally in the mid 30's if not high 30's depending on how **** the dealer wants to be. Your in 370Z,EVO and STi territory then...
But time will tell if the general public will warm up to it or not, enthusiast will gobble it up because all they see in flashing lights are tuneable turbo, rwd, 306 HP, Brembo brakes and track suspension.

Hyundai just can't win when it comes to folks like you, can they? If they would have gone with styling derivative of Audi/BMW/Benz, they would have been criticized for being copy-cats. So they style it in their own unique way, and people still criticize them.
That rear window is an interesting styling feature, but it's functional too. It significantly helps rearward/outward visibility.

The cars are cheap, if this one is better then grats to hyundai. But if its the same old crap why should I praise them?

No, were not expecting it to have BMW or Acura type interiors, but it could be alot better. Hell a 17k civic and scion tc has a better interior than this Hyundai that cost 30k. The Genesis interior is mega cheap looking, worse than the Mustang interior!

Also, where did you get your pricing information from? The base 4 cylinder will start around the $21K mark, and a fully-loaded V6 track model including destination should be just at $30K.
And I'm sorry people have to pay so much tax in other state. Actually, I'm not. New car sales tax here is a maximum of $300, so it's not a big deal.
And nobody pays close to sticker for a Hyundai, unless they are completely retarded. After 6 months of being on the market in this terrible economy, I'm fairly confident I could get a fully-loaded V6 Genesis Coupe for under $30K out the door in my area.
But feel free to keep hating on it with pathetic nit-picking.

I know people who look at me like they stepped in dog dodo when I mention that I think a Mazda is a pretty decent car...like "Ohh...ummm...I've never considered them...I'm not really into Mazdas." they kinda say politely.
How do you explain or convince people that their preconceived notions could...just possibly, maybe be a bit unforgiveing? I guess it's just normal brand snobbery....somebrand trumps Mazda, Mazda trumps Hyundai, Hyundai trumps Kia, Kia trumps Tata ...Haa . Haa . Haa . I have seen plenty of pre -production vehicles on display, and the paint was flawless on these vehicles, and they didn't use cheap materials in there interiors.
If Hyundai does a poor job in the paint department on there pre production vehicles , i sure hate to see what the production vehicles will look like.
No hating at all.... where did i ever mention about hating on this car?
I just stating obvious.... its a 306 Hp car that uses cheap materials. I am talking about the v6 variant , not the turbo car being sold at 30k.
Hey you drive whatever you want to, I am not losing sleep over it.

This car looks promising... i think im gonna reserve judgment until i can test drive one
but just as far as the specs go... i am very impressed with what Hyundai has done with this vehicle

Try to say car instead of vehicle whenever possible. Saying vehicle does not increase your IQ or the validity of your statements.

Well don't need to drive one to acknowledge that it looks like a POS. Also, DD saw it up close at an auto show and he has concluded the interior materials are a a POS.

But time will tell if the general public will warm up to it or not, enthusiast will gobble it up because all they see in flashing lights are tuneable turbo, rwd, 306 HP, Brembo brakes and track suspension.
If this car was priced at 25k then Hyundai would have carved a sweet spot in the sports car market. i dont like how the rear side window dips down. they should of just made it straight. it makes the space between the dip and fender look skinny. not sure if that makes sense.

I esp. like the sculpted lines in the door top and bottom break the slab-side monotony. To each his own...

I think it looks good and seems to have decent value, but I still think this car will flop like hyundais other attempts at a sports car (ie tiburon).
They have a very small following and now they put themselves in the evo, STI bracket. Better be a hell of a sports car to compete, outperform, and OUTSELL its competition.

Besides, the car you show is riced out. Look at that hideous hood. I'd never drive a car looking like that. Maybe younger guys wouldn't mind.

It's clear you don't appreciate or admire this effort from Hyundai. I hear what you're saying and thanks for all your input, however, it's time for you to move on. Something along the lines of if you've nothing positive to say,...etc., etc. ..what's your point of hanging around???? ...is what I'm getting at....
