Road Runner, that Coyote's after you! (Concept)
If you're on a highway and Road Runner goes beep-beep!
Just step aside, or you might end up in heap!
Road Runner, Road Runner runs on the road all day.
Even the Coyote can't make him change his ways.

Artist Michael Leonhard first tipped us off to his design sketches of the Plymouth Road Runner Concept back in June. He has now kicked his drawings up a notch with these renderings, dubbed the Road Runner Superbird Concept.
In Leonhard's mind, he sees his version of the Superbird as a late 60's NASCAR killer. With a HEMI engine (of course), the artist wanted to create an American style sports car that has muscle and reduced drag.
"[It has] a sleek nose cone that slips into air like a knife through butter; incorporating a spoiler below the centered grille opening," writes Leonhard. He also integrated an exhaust system into the rocker panel. The ideally aluminum two-panel rear spoiler is massive, and would create "enormous downforce," he says.
Keeping with the NASCAR look, Leonhard added the Richard Petty-inspired artwork. If built, the Plymouth Road Runner Superbird Concept would ride on 19-inch white magnesium rims up front, and 21-inchers at back.

Looks cool but to break the news to the artist, that wing isn't functional for anything but disrupting the air flow off the rear better, that's it. Massive downforce, more like minimal or no downforce. Think he needs a better clue how spoilers/wings work. I think terming him as an artist sums it up as it states, not a mechanical designer.
The only way that thing is going to get downforce is with a sharp bend at the rear tip of the wing also known to some as a wickerbill which would also increase drag but would give you some downforce at least contrast to that design.
I would be all over that green one though, if they erase the mistakes of the Challenger and take the old retro look and combine it with the tech of today like the Challenger but also with lighter parts of today, then it would be something. Challenger's downfall is while it's sexy looking beast, still too heavy like the days of old.

Apparently you are not familiar with the 1970 Plymouth RoadRunner. Bringing back the classic means YOU MUST bring back the rediculous spoiler so everyone knows what it is from a mile away.

He's as bad as Can
I thought at speeds over 200 Mph that spoiler was functional. The only reason it was on the street versions was so the race teams could use them at Daytona and Talladega?

I think theres enough baby boomers still around looking to blow thier wads that this car would be a money maker, Im seeing Challengers everywhere and gotta say Id have one. Id take a Challenger over the new stang or Camaro regardless of the handling, these are street/strip cars by nature anyway. New stang outhandles it, new camaro out accelerates it until you add mods but niether looks as right on saturday night.

For performance wise at 200 even if there is an effect, it's rather small in theory with a small wing span cross section area on the top and the wing is flat so the only benefit is the height of the wing to attempt to give it some effect but again with no wickerbill or wing angle it's more than likely very small.
Again I stated it to ridicule the author's wording and hyping of the wing, it's for exaggeration and hype to the unknowing public while as a design it's still cool

The only good thing of the old design is well, the muscle-car-ness of it and it being an icon.
I think the new design looks pretty good actually.
