Here is another article I found, with some discussion comments on gizmodo

This is a link to the manufacterer

This little engine looks really cool. In the PDF on the website it says it's about the size of a car battery. 5kW of power output is a lot of power for that size, much smaller then a small generator you get at home depot that put's out 5kW. Plus they say there making it to run on a variety of fuels. Interesting that it has no external generator running from a prop. Some type of induction housing around the motor itself. I'd like to see this in action.

The Clarion site was interesting... esp. this part...

Asynchronous Rotor Operation

In a typical configuration, the rotary generator has two or more rotor assemblies, a primary rotor assembly and one or more secondary rotor assemblies. Unlike a typical rotary engine however, the primary and secondary rotor assemblies are not coupled to one another via a crankshaft and can be operated synchronously or asynchronously as needed. For example, the primary and any secondary rotor assemblies may operate at different cycle frequencies to provide boost power or improved fuel efficiency, or the primary rotor assembly may operate alone while any secondary rotor assemblies are turned off to reduce fuel consumption when loads are lower.

Energy Management System and Boost Power

The Energy Management System is comprised of a processor-based controller for managing the operation of the primary and secondary rotor assemblies, the power converter, additional generator functions such as combustion timing, fuel mixture, cooling, etc., and a built-in capacitor bank that can be used to start the rotary generator and provide short power boosts if needed.
Just daydreaming that Mazda could make great use of this "Asyncronous Rotor Operation" for their cars. Having the two rotors work independently could be a great advantage and perfect for a hybrid design. The single rotor (back housing) would directly power the driveshaft, while the front independent rotor would be a electric power generator for suppling electric power for a hybrid drive setup. With a concentric electric motor housing on the transmission shaft, this extra power as needed could offer gobs of torque and extra HP on demand.

With the high mileage of a single rotor and the added boost of electric drive when needed thinking this would be just the perfect solution Mazda needs.
