FYI rotary performance in Garland TX does not do rebuilds anymore IIRC. They will install new Mazda engines though.

I suppose so since you’d rather drink every last drop of a bucket of hemlock than let me help you for free

I did not verify it, but I heard it from another source recently.
I'll note it in the header.

The Rotary Doctor, Kyle in Neosho, Mo. finished dropping my new engine in and doing all the needed repairs on my LY.
Outstanding job, far exceeded my expectations .

I would recommend him.

I paid $6k for a new factory engine.
One of, if not the last available.

Idk if there will be anymore.
Afaik, Mazda is still making them.
Maybe they're selling them to the Asian market as fast as they can build them.

I spent a lot of time talking to Kyle at Rotary Doctor.
He said he fixes a lot of half fast rebuilds.
When I dropped off my engine there he showed me a rebuild he did for a guy in Louisiana who recently came and drove it back to La.

He has a very good rep with guys who know about him.
He doesn't advertise, he doesn't have a big modern shop, he's just a guy who loves working on Wankels and takes pride in it.

If you're fed up with your experience, give him a call.

Another bad experience from member _JB_ about Pettit botching a rebuild.
They are definitely slipping.

I checked the other day and at least one was in US inventory, but the price is hard to believe. My Mazda Motorsports cost is up $2000 from several years ago (over 50%). The discounted retail price must be close to $6500 now. Probably over $7k at a dealership. Just for the keg.

Yikes.

I doubt it’d be any different. Pretty sure what I posted is the reman price now.

Anyone know if Rotary Doctor still in biz? I tried contacting him via email but didn't get a response. I am in the Southeast Missouri area. unless there is a rotary engine specialist closer.

unfortunately I work 8am - 5pm, don't want to brother the guy after hours. I send him another email detailing what my problem is and what he suggest for a reman or rebuild. plus a possible street port.

I just took a look at the pineappleracing.com site. Just curious about the price of rebuilt engines.
It was noted that the engine pictured was for m/t (manual transmission) only. Can anyone explain
the difference between a/t and m/t engines ?? How do they differ??? Why would they make that distinction??

It's a different engine, it also has less HP.

ATs are less desirable, and worth less than MTs.
If you need an AT rebuild, you should consider a MT instead.

Unless you really love a certain AT model, you'll likely spend more for a rebuild/reman or new engine than the car is worth.

.

BigCajun :
I know that the A/T setup has less power then the M/T. I know the M/T engine makes too much power
for the Auto Transmission to handle in the long run. My question has to do with the actual differences in the two engines.

What I was looking for was, which parts in the two engine types are different. I have no need for a new/rebuilt engine.
There has to be some part(s) that are different in the two types.
It's OK to say "I don't know". I hope this clarifies my question.... Anyone??

Been talking to the owner some recently and am realizing he’s a good guy who’s been in the rotary game since the late 70’s. So he might not be around forever, but I’m comfortable to give a “recommended” bump

His name is JP Derdeyn. If you’re in the Montreal CAN area give JP a shout.
