No, no no no no.
If Mazda ever gets bought out and "taken over", I'm jumping ship to another car company. Mazda is the only car company willing to put any money into the rotary at all. Any other company that takes them over is going to ditch every last hope, destroy the production lines, fire the rotary specialists, etc... They will also neuter the cars to boring dullness.
Mazda makes the cars they do because they WON'T follow the big manufacturers. You won't get the same car if a big company is calling the shots.

Between SkyActive sales successes, selling the rotary generators (which keeps their niche), the capital infusion from the stock sale, and the profits predicted with building Alpha's new roadster for them, I'd say Mazda is certainly ramping back up to where they need to be to pursue the rotary again.

I honestly think that at this point, Mazda could make a lighter rotor out of aluminum if it was all about weight, for very little cost difference over the current rotors. i think that there is more to it than just the raw manufacturing of a lighter rotor.
Do you have any papers on Mazda's use of aluminum rotors? That would be an interesting read...

thunderberk, the range extender concept isn't something you just add to a vehicle. It is an electrical generator that would actively charge the batteries that are powering your electric vehicle, increasing the amount of time/distance that you can run on the batteries before you have to let them charge back up.
Basically like someone buying an electric vehicle, then sticking a portable generator in the back seat and running the output power cord to the plug in, then running the generator while they are driving around so they can drive farther.

Rotary range extenders is GOOD NEWS.
Why?> Because it means the successful / profitable use of lots of rotary engines.
That means more experience, more R&D and more industry acceptance.
The more rotaries out there the better. If the range extender extend the life of the rotary then great.
Who says Mazda couldnt make a small rotary range extender single rotor AND a 16x triple rotor RX7 beast?
Who says Mazda cant use electric motors to solve the low down torque issue of the rotary (not to mention in town fuel consumption) and then use the rotary part as the high output FAST part of a sports car?
The future is bright..... we just dont know what it is yet!
