I concur with RG. Mazda has in the past never built any high horsepower car. It's not in their philosophy to do so. Mazda's niche is to build lightweight great handling sporty cars.
On the contrary to many ignorant folks out there, the rotary existed in other previous Mazda models that had rear seats.

Maybe Mazda's philosophy should change as the times do since Nissan just built a vehicle that handles superbly and puts out incredible amounts of power at a reasonable production cost.

Jeremy Clarkson from TopGear also said that the Bugatti Veyron will never be made?...how wrong was he..

The current rumor is Mazda are going to build a Furai type rotary super car for 2015!

MMMm, the Mazda Cosmo 20B of the early 1990's was quick, not in the GTR class but quick and a 2 door 2+2

The GT-R is a very limited edition car. It's a flag ship who's main purpose is to keep Nissan's name in the head of performance enthusiasts. The GT-R will make Nissan more money by helping promote all of their other cars than it will from it's own sales.

In short, just because Nissan built a GT-R doesn't mean Mazda needs to do the same.

Im not disagreeing with you, however the GT-R isnt exactly a super low production car, its historically been relatively common in Japan, not unlike the porsche 911 or the corvette in the states. Mazda has no need to enter into that segment where profit margin is not high, but they better make sure they are competitive vs the 370Z and other cars in the segments they compete against in the near future

Historically it's been a beefed up Skyline. Now it is it's own model with it's own chassis and a tone of one off bits and pieces. It's going to be less abundant than the last GT-R trims.

how does this make it less abundant? price is the determine factor, and the price of the current GT-R is inline with the previous ones... if anything it would be more abundant because more ignorant people who wants to get looks from others will get it

Fine, there's going to be 500,000 of them. It will out number the 350Z.

For everyone's information: There is a dealer in Las Vegas selling these cars at MSRP. There is very little price gouging going on. The dealers that are though... I was quoted for 95k for one sitting on a lot here in Bergen County, NJ. A demo car too...

A recent Road & Track compared the GTR, 'Vette Z06, 911 GT3 and Viper ACR.

Although they somewhat panned all, the GTR came out on top.

The GTR's not much of a looker, but all of the above ludicrous $'s for a vehicle anyway, so academic.

To bad the ZR-1 was not on hand. Things may have been different.

yep, there are dealerships selling at MSRP, my friend got one already around MSRP. Its nothing unatural when the M5, Elise, Z06, Shelby GT500 etc first came out they were all being marked up at various dealerships.. nothing out of the ordinary and price will fall back down

do you have the name of the dealership? I have another friend who is looking to buy one, but they are all sold out in the DC area, he dosnt mind going to Vegas to pick it up

Though they do play on words with alot of USA cars, Clarkson does own a Ford GT and raves about it. I think they more or less put down the common american car, they did like the viper, Z06, Ford GT, etc.

He liked the Z06, but he said things like "look at it go, 7.0L of American friendly fire"

Etc.

He just doesn't like America much. Or maybe he does and just wants to make British people laugh.

Being half British myself I don't really mind.

I do think that he doesn't like the U.S. but exaggerates it to build an audience for the show. He also likes almost any current British car. Richard Hammond, I feel, likes the U.S. He bought a pickup truck for the America special and wore a cowboy hat. He bought a 69 Dodge Charger and couldn't park it at home because his garage door opening was too small. There have been other examples in the past too.

Face it. There isn't very many good cars available in the U.S. If there were, then people wouldn't be buying Toyota, Honda or, in out case, Mazda. In the Vetts case, it was built for the american road system. Not the british or european roads. It's no wonder that they don't like the car.

Did own one I believe, but it broke down so much that he got rid of it and bought the Lamborghini.
