RWD coupes & the return of the fairlady z?
#26
With cars like the RX-8 and the 350Z, these cars are great in there own way, but they still fall short of there siblings of old in many areas. So when people seem nervous, there is for justable cause, because we know how manufactures of new like to cut corners, or not give us the consumer a complete package. Thus the nervous attitude, or kind of coy attitude when it comes to these new sports cars that get a legendary name slapped on there rear valance.
It saddens us true enthisiast , because when you have the "Z" symbol or the "RX-?" on the back of a car, us enthusiast alreasy have high expectations of what that car should be able to do or not able to do. But when the new offerings just excels in one area, then the name becomes dumbed down to a sense....
Its been a long time since a japanese car maker has given us a complete sports car where it excels in looks, acceleration, speed, handeling, braking, weight, build quality, value, fun factor.... basically the complete package.
If you want that type of package you will now have to buy a Vette or spend a bunch of money on exotic machinary.

I'm not sure that Nissan has room for another sports car. Realistically if they come out with the 240Z it will be priced around 28K, that's only a few K less then the soon to be 370Z. That means they will ahve to bump the price on the 370 Once the 370Z approches the 40K mark sales will drope, it's still a Nissan and at 40K you can spend a few K more and get other better sports cars. Also think of the buyers that could actually afford the 40K, that's not the demographics they attract now. The need to stick to a mid 30K sports coupe.

Also keep in mind that early reports of this mystery Nissan RWD coupe are saying it will only have small efficient direct injection turbocharged 4-cylinders ranging from 140 to 215 hp - nowhere near the 300hp the 350Z makes now. It seems this car would or should be priced even lower than the 3.5 V6 Altima coupe and could cater to those seeking a more efficient/economical RWD sports car.
I think most of the info being tossed around is more speculation or wishful thinking than anything else so we'll have to wait and see.

Honestly guys, if we get a RWD coupe 4 banger (hopefully DI) turbo engine from 20-25k think of the possibilities!
Hyundai is already doing it with the genesis, and I honestly believe it will be HUGE! 223 hp may not sound like alot, but if you think about it, the RX-8 has exactly that much (or less) power for $30k+ and if you want more power, then you have to go FI which is even more $
The SRT-4 was widely known as a cheap fast fun car, but to me its just Wrong wheel drive. Same with the MS3, fun car but I would just never get one.
Like I said, hyundai is doing it, and when it makes it big, nissan will step into the mix and so will the toyota/subaru rwd coupe (with the turbo boxer engine from the wrx)
More options/competition means better products for us! A new era is coming :D

This is exactly why I created this thread.

Yes and no, Hyundai is playing into a iffy market, the sports car market is a niche market. Remember Hyundai still has a bad rep from the '80s that hasn't let go , nor will go away anytime soon. The next Tiburon will have to prove itself, not only as a value performance car , but also as a car that will have to outshine the competition. Not to mention its debuting when the Camaro is coming out, another iconic performance car that will offer more power and goods for the price of a Tiburon.
The Tiburon sounds nice and looks nice on paper, but will it perform?

Yes, popularity will play a big part of it but come on lets face it, we didnt get the RX-8 because it was super popular right? We would all be driving 350z's for that matter
I have never owned a hyundai, and I can see why people are.... skeptical, but I AM a car enthusiast, so hyundais car is something that I will for sure look into.
BTW Hyundai's 4 cylinder turbo car is going to start around 20k* ish while their 300hp v6 will start at around 25k* ish all the way up to 27k* or so for a fully loaded V6(brembo, leather, etc)
*please note that these prices are pure guesses from what i've read from the genesis forums
Im just saying guys, the market is changing and I for one really love it more cars to chose from!
BTW The new camaro does look hawt
