Another rotary car? Bring it on! Every car is kinda fugly when a artist sketches it or photcops it from other pics. Brings memories from when just about ALL Mazda cars were rotaries, even the pickup truck > http://www.mycompactpickup.com/MazdaPickuprotary.html

Go for it Mazda!

I think he got the torque and horsepower ratings backwards. How many rotaries with 154 hp are there that have 222 ft lbs of torque?

i would just like to point out that Rotarynews.com predicted a new RX-3 2 and a half years ago in this article http://rotarynews.com/?q=node/view/158

A new RX-3

Mazda might/could develop a lightweight, low price point, entry level, compact vehicle that would take advantage, of the RENESIS' newfound emissions and mileage standards. The vehicle could be made in the spirit of the RX-3 Coupe and would break away from the now all-consuming front-wheel drive entry level platforms of the market today......

Yeah, I recall reading that now, at the time I hoped it wasn't true. I want to see another RX-7, not an RX-3!. I really don't think there's room in Mazda's line up for an RX-3, RX-7, and RX-8. But wouldn't that be something, almost a return to the rotary's glory days of the late '70s.

Anyway, this has got to be one of the most horrid photo chops I've seen. If an RX-3 is really on the drawing board, I'm sure it will look nothing like this. The JDM mags are infamous for having fugly artist's conceptions of what a future car might look like. The real cars end up looking nothing like 'em.

I've said this before, Mazda has all the ingredients it needs to easily create a killer pure sports car. One that could truly take the world by storm! Start with the NC MX-5 chassis, make it lighter by being a coupe, style another breath taking body, drop in the fully tuned 13b NA Renesis (or even better, the 16b for savage performance). Presto, Wallah! Will Mazda pull this magic trick?

The car would rule!

I would take one, light, fast.
My most favorite engine type in the world.

Good combo.

I don't care for the fattish A pillar, though...

Looks like a 2 door RX-8!

I cant see how they can go with this when they have said that they wont go with a new 7 because the Hiroshima plant production is at 100% and to introduce a new car they would have to expand the plant.

The rx-3 has already been released here in the states. My pops beat a porcshe out on a lonley backroad in Nevada. Yet that was back in the early 70's. Great car, cept its apex seals were toast at 40k. wish he still had it today

It makes every sense to do this, all the parts are there and the RX-8 production has slow down, a 2800lbs 2 door coupe with the renesis better tune (205 rwhp) good price an you have a winer

And dont forged the oficial theme for this year sevenstock is rotary coupes and there historical importance.

Not happening

Mazda’s Philosophy since the RX-7 debacle is to produce fun to driver cars that handle before they pull. I don’t think it likely you will see any car produced by Mazda that’s going to take the “World by Storm.” Mazda is now a conservative car manufacturer that tends to stay right up the middle in car design.

This photo chop sure would be a cool car, but in order to produce it, they would have to up the 8’s power, in order to maintain it’s position as the premier model. Because I feel it very unlikely that the 8 will be getting a power upgrade, I find it equally unlikely that this car will ever hit the streets.

Looks like a horrible chop, Mazda should focus on redesigning some of their current cars and bringing back the Millenia.

Don the Mazda6 is being upsized to Millenia size or slightly larger for 2007.

pskull i dont understand your up the middle in car design statement. Mazda3 5 door. Mazda5 and RX-8. New MX-5. How are they middle of the road?

actuall ther eis no miata any more and it wouldnt compete with the MX-5 as it would be a rotary . just like they wouldnt HAVE to give the RX-8 a power bump. they wouldnt compete because one is a 4 door and the other is not.

Like berny from rotary news said its price must be 16,000 to 18,000( the miata base is 20+), the car that this might take sales away from is the mazda3, so does it makes more sense to make a mazda3 coupe?, the people that buy a 3 fully loaded might want something with more power, but I still dont think this car is going to take sales away from other mazda model.

Why don't they get it over with and just make a Miata RX?
