RX-7 gas mileage

For those of you with an rx-7...did/do you get gas mileage that was advertised on the window sticker? What type of mileage do you get?

Also, do you think the '05 8's will have the window sticker changed? I know having a gas guzzler tax will be a turn off to potential buyers, but they can't possibly advertise 18/24 again, can they?

All of my RX-7s got 20 MPG on average. I don't think the window stickers on RX's have ever matched the actual MPG. Why change tradition now?

they dont need to change the sticker because those are the numbers that the EPA calculated and by law that is what has to be posted. Beside with the advent of the L or M flash mileage is much closer to those numbers. i could have exceeded the highway number on my recent trip if i had stayed at @60-65 instead of 75-80.

I heard the EPA is employing 89 year old grandmothers as test drivers.

Re: RX-7 gas mileage

Blame EPA, not Mazda, for the discrepency. I read that EPA's freeway mileage is tested with a speed of 48 MPH. I am pretty sure I can get 24 MPG with my 8 under the condition EPA tested.

On most freeway driving here, I do either stop-and-go when traffic is heavy or around 80 MPH when the freeway is not so busy. I still get over 20 MPG. So, what is the problem?

when i first got mine the gas mileage pretty much sucked for the first couple thousand miles (about 13-17) now I am getting about 23-26MPG normal driving. using 91 octane 76 brand gas or elase 91octane mobile gas (depending if i fill up near work or home)

Well, answering the original question, my 93 RX-7 gets 10 l/100km on the highway, and has achieved 9.5. City not so good - 15 to 17 l/100 km. About the same as my 2001 Pathfinder in the city. It's modified - Apex'i PFC, no cats, HKS Superdragger cat back, etc. but engine is not ported. I have no idea what the EPA thought it should get, nor do I care. They are nuts.

Your tax dollars at work!

No.
Advertised is something like 18/26 ( i think? ).
I get 15 best in the city, 21 best on the highway.

BUT i am modded so its probably not that accurate

My third gen is way too modded for it too matter. I can literally see the gas gauge dropping under WOT. Although in that car it is more important to watch the road (with glances at the boost gauge) than the fuel gauge.

My 7 gets 20-25 mpg depending on speed, traffic, and city/highway combo.
The 8 mpg is improving as the engine is broken in. getting 19.62mpg since the M-flash. Got 21.2mpg on a trip this weekend with the AC on and driving with the traffic on 95.
The 8 has about 100hp more than my 7 and weighs about 400 lbs more.
I'm content with the improving mileage and very happy with the overall performace of the 8.
