Thumbs down RX-8 vs Mazdaspeed 6

WTF? Is all I have to say. Why is Mazda putting out the Mazdaspeed 6 with 274hp, 280 ft lbs tourque, and a huge list of performance parts everything for suspension to body. Why can't mazda do that to the 8. I mean the RX-8 is supposed to be the flagship of mazda, but yet they are putting out a Mazdaspeed 6 that from what I'm reading, that will out power the 8 and probably handle just as well. Come on Mazda, where's the Mazdaspeed RX-8! TURBO TURBO TURBO!!!

Edited for grammar.

The mazdaspeed 6 doesn't look good though.. It's like on the same level of an WRX lookswise.

I guess you haven't seen the 10 other threads on this subject.

It has already been established that while the MS6 has more HP, it is heavier and still won't be faster than the RX8. ANd seriously doubt that a 6 will outhandle an RX8 with 50:50 weight ratio.

DITTO!!!!

Mazda's main sports car being outclassed by a four door sedan. That's just sad.

But on a brighter note, maybe they have something REALLY big planned for the RX-8. I can't see Mazda letting the RX-8 rot. The 8 sold well, it handles better than almost anything, it's got convience (back seats), FR, 50/50, etc., etc.

Lack of power ... Mazda, come on and bring out that white RX-8 you built. Bring out that Renesis 20B you've got in the back (I know you've got one somewhere). Bring out that blower.

I still say the 8 needs more power. Most cars in it's class are in the 13s to low 14s.

This car may outaccelerate the RX8 but at that weight it will not handle 'nearly as well'. I think it looks good tho--its no RX8 but I would drive one (notice I said drive one--not buy one)

The 8 is not the flagship for mazda. Saw a brochere on the 6 at the dealership the other day. The words "Mazda's flagship" were used to describe it.

People who already claim that the MS6 is "better" just by the published hp figures are retarded.

Let me see...hmm a FWD based AWD system, a little porky, and piston powered......no thank you. I'll take my light fun as hell to drive rotary RWD...with or without the full 238hp.....

I doubt that. Who stated that as it's 1/4 time?

You guys are retarded. The 8 is still a faster car and handles better. Think weight, people.

Plus how many MS6s are you going to see...it's not a mass-produced car.

Honestly I don't think Mazda has a "flagship car", every ad I've seen emphasizes all their models, not just the 8, or 3, or Tribute or whatever. We shouldn't be bitching, we should be stoked. I'm all for car makers building sportcars/hotrods etc., no matter what shape or form they take. I say bring it on, why not add a 3 and go after the Xrunner while they're at it with some kind of nutty souped up pickup to boot

I don't follow most of this stuff, and I am just replying based on what I have read on this site, but I would assume that the reason Mazda is releasing a MS6 while doing nothing new with the RX8 is probably because the RX8 isn't selling all that great right now. I see lots more 3's and 6's on the road than I do 8's. I wouldn't produce a more expensive and more specialized version of a car that is selling slow either. Don't get me wrong, I love my 8, but from a business point of view it might be seen as a bad gamble right now.

C&D gave the RX-8 5.9

can someone explain how a future iteration of the rx8 possibly increasing HP power by turbo, supercharger or whatever they do will actually affect current 8 owners? Sure its great if they increase HP, but what does that REALLY mean to us?

Is mazda going to release a kit to bring it up to the "new" 8?? I dunno, if they make a faster 8 and don't let previous owners to the upgrade does it really matter to us? no

correct me if i'm wrong please!

The following is my opinion.

Mazda made the RX-8 to test the market. It was introduced to see if any interest still exists out here for rotary powered vehicles. And by the enthusiasm for the 8, it is clear there is still alot of interest in rotary.

That said, the 6 and the 8 appeal to totally different buyers. The 6 is already established as a top seller for them. What is lacking in the 6 line-up is a serious competitor to the other "perfomance" sedans (i.e G35, Maxima..) The new MS6 should fill that void.

The RX-8 will probably go away in favor of a faster, future RX-7. And I'll have to trade in my 8 for a 7.

I think that the MS6 is an all weather answer to the WRX, EVO arena. Subaru, and Mitsu have been soaking up all the glory in that area for years now. Maybe Mazda Motorsports is considering entering into Rally racing...who knows.

I personally would definately consider running my 8 in the summer, and a MS6 in the winter. I know I could have a WRX or EVO for pretty close to the same price with better performance (As we know they are both faster than the 8 for the same price), but I am a Mazda fan. Despite it all, I still love walking out to my 8 in the morning and smiling when I see it.

I applaude Mazda for taking the direction that they have, I just hope that they can get all of the logistics of producing cars they way they "say" they will. I know their trying....look at the current mazda lineup. It's great. The 3, the 6, the new Miata. I think they are moving in the right direction....I wold like to see a 20B in the MS RX8...I think that would make it sooo much better.

It states that it is manufacturers performance rating not CD's.

edit- I am not saying x is faster than y. Just trying to find actual rw testing of the vehicle vs press releases and guestimated times.

My opinion is this is totally untrue. Everyone buying an 8 isn't in it for speed. The 8 is selling pretty darn well for Mazda, and if a 7 hits the market, it will most likely be slightly more expensive, not the same as the 8.

So, you think Mazda would ditch a good selling car in place of a potentially lesser selling car, just because it's faster? No. Especially since the 7 would be a 2 seater and therefore rule out many of the current 8 owners who want 4 seats.

I would think that the 7 and 8 would stay, that way the appear to a broader range of the market. If you want the rotary and faster speed, you'd by a 7 regardless. If you want a rotary with gorgeous looks and decent speed (which is most of the 8 owners here), you buy an 8.

I don't think the 8 is going anywhere anytime soon.

ya know something else ocuurred to me, the 8 is still pretty new. It's probably a bit suspect to speculate on a car's future considering it is only 1-2 years old, seems like it would almost be like looking at an infant and knowing that he/she will end up a doctor etc.
