I really have no idea wat on vw's guys mind... if u really like fast car. buy evo rs.. and mod it hard as u can. if u mod about $6000 on rs(performance) which is the same price as r32 the base model. with no option. I sure u won't have any interest to race with r32.. cuz ur evo may faster then 360.. so y play with r32.. but which u giving up is ... audio.... leather seat. powerwindow..and bababa... fortunately u still got A/C... (if u really want a fast car. go for evo rs.<not evo>) evo mr is not worth in us. cuz it's different with jp version. not a big different with rs. just got 6 speed manual and .. a lighter wheel. it's not really matter to evo. no need 6 speed. 5 speed is enough... and it's way expensiver.

FYI, according to R&T, the MR in the US weighs the same as the base EVO (or is it the RS?), but comes with a bit more power/torque, better gearing (thanks to the 6 speed), a helical limited slip front diff with the active center dif, and some very nice Bilstein dampers. Oh yeah, and those nice light wheels. R&T characterzed it as a more civilized, yet faster, EVO. Yes it has weight recucing features but those are offset by the front diff.
They make it sound pretty good, actually. Better acceleration, better grip, and better damping over bumps.

If you want all out performance neither the RX-8 or R32 are the best choice, but they're both good cars and the R32 probably makes for a better daily driver, especially if you live in a bad weather area and need more trunk space.
- RX8 has 4 doors, more comfortable ride (though R32 is not as stiff as EVO)
- R32 has hatch, AWD
I personally need 4 doors and like the RX8's comfortable ride, so for me the RX8 is the better daily driver. I'll miss my WRX's AWD this winter, but with decent tires a balanced RWD car can do quite well in the snow (as long as its not so deep that you're plowing it with your bumper).
FYI, Autoweek recently picked the R32 over the RS:

Of course, they're a bunch of dumbasses since most of their R32 advantages would've been less prominant had they not compared it to the RS flavor of the EVO. Also, their acceleration times were way too conservative (14.5 1/4 mile for EVO!) But the R32 is sweet and if it was priced more competitively and I didn't need 4 doors, I'd consider it.
