Road and Track or Car and Driver also did a comparison in Feb. 2003 - Mustang vs G35 vs. RX8 and the RX8 won that one as well. Apparently the link no longer exists.
It's the innovation and all around sports car appeal that is so attractive and why the RX-8 continues to get such rave reviews and not just from the owners!

ok....i have a 350z but at first i seriously considered buying the rx8
all i have to say is that i think the majority of the posts here are lame and repeating past arguments.....
the rx8 and 350z are both great cars! ! ! why do you even have to compare which one is better? what the hell is wrong with you people? All of you seem like children just whining and whining... aren't you tired of it yet? it pissed me off just reading all of your rediculous posts (granted there were some very valid and unbiased issues posted). As i'm sure the majority of the members here are above 18, please just grow up.
the majority of the posts by the rx8 people concerning this topic seemed to just bash on the 350z.....well i'm constantly on the 350z forums DAILY and they don't even compare the two cars anymore.....

Having a porsche and considering the 8 a better car means so much for mazda's little 'prodigy'.
I feel sorry for people who buy a car that has nothing special. Actually it does have one thing: so much weight! 1550kg is a number that just won't do! Maybe Nissan engineers need some lecturing from Lotus :o (or mazda)
Oh, and straight-line acceleration, that's the only thing the Z owners have compaired to the 8. They just cannot accept the idea that there is a car almost as fast as theirs and it can do so many other things! Pride and envy, two very bad sins... :D

In the TopGear review the ex-F1 driver, on the same track under similar conditions (different days) got exactly the same time for the RX-8, 350Z and BMW M3.
These are GOOD comparisons - same drivers, similar conditions and plenty of time to get the best times out of each car with nothing else on the track. The Best Motoring videos (the one where the RX-8 comes almost last and the later one with the RX-8 beating the S2000 and everything else) are not good comparisons due to different drivers and levels of agressiveness and the fact they were trying to put on a show with commentary, not really race as hard as they could for best times.
Of course in the hands of an average driver like myself the 350Z/G35 accelerates quicker in a straight line than the RX-8, and that is fun. The RX-8 encourages higher speeds in the corners, and that is fun too. These are all great cars at around $30k: G35, RX8, 350Z, EVO, STi and S2000. It's wonderful to have such choices.

the rx-8 and 350z were designed for TWO DIFFERENT PURPOSES.
just because one car meets your needs better doesn't mean that car is better overall. it ONLY means that it's better FOR YOU. and obviously your situation and desires are NOT going to be the same as those of other people.
as for me, i like the aggressive "brute force" feel in a car. also, my friends and i, for the most part, have cars available to drive so i didn't necessarily need 4 seats. therefore, the 350z was a better car FOR ME.
just because the 350z suits me and my needs doesn't mean that it's better than the rx-8. they are both great cars at awesome prices. they're just... different. so they should be treated as such. some intelligent posts have already pointed this out but people continue to insist on making generalizations on which car is better (which is a matter of opinion to begin with).
however, here's one thing that i can generalize safely (i think). i'm sure people in both the 8 and the z camps can agree that we didn't get our cars for ultimate practicality. if that were the case, we would all be driving civic hybrids. the reason we DID buy our respective cars was because we all have some car enthusiast spirit in us. so instead of speaking as a z owner to rx-8 owners, i want to speak as a car enthusiast to other car enthusiasts:
we all had our personal reasons for buying the cars we bought. what we both have in common is that we enjoy driving our cars. so STOP THE IDIOCY and ENJOY YOUR RIDE no matter what it might be.
just because an rx-8 owner says that he/she loves driving his/her car, a z owner should not respond with "i love the z and you would too because...". the same applies in the opposite case. whenever you hear ANY car owner say that he/she loves driving his/her car, you should be happy for that person because that person found a car that satisfies that person's needs.
as for the magazine awards, those are assigned by the writers who are on the assignment. if the z meets the writer's expectations better than the rx-8, the z will get the award. and if the rx-8 meets the expectations better, it will get the award. citing an award does nothing to help anyone's cause. it just refers to the opinions of other people. and everyone has an opinion so the magazine awards are a joke.
like someone in a z forum said, asking "which car is better?" is like asking a bunch of people "who's the hottest person alive?" or "what's the funniest movie?" different people are going to give you different answers. the absolute truth of the matter is that THERE IS NO ABSOLUTE TRUTH.

However, to respond to your other post directed at Klegg, you don't see the trolls because we mods have removed them- getting rid of the posts, or banning the perpetrators, or both. We have had more than our fair share of them. If I see another "350Z kicks the RX-8's ***" thread started I'm going to have to hurt someone. HOWEVER, if we find out about any members here trolling anywhere else, they tend to get censored as well. Either way, it's stupid.

On a similar note though, I really have to commend you guys, because I frequent many car forums and see a lot of 8 bashing in other forums. However, 8 owners don't have as much tendency to go trolling their forums as much as they do you guys when that happens. That shows a lot about your maturity...I wish I could say the same for some of my fellow Z owners, BUT don't assume or judge me or any other Z owner right off of the back because of a few idiots. If I pre-judged all of you guys based off of Zerobanger's or Mentalpimp's posts to me, then you all would hate me much much more than you already do.

1. Lamborghini Countach 500 white (Best looking EXOTIC car, sorry Bugatti, Enzo, GT , SLR, McLaren F1 because you don't look as exotic as countach, and Murceolago , gallardo nice try, but you will never be countach )
2. F1- formula Ferrari ( Best RACING car, I will pay Michael Schumacher to train me , rent a race track every Sunday morning)
3. Best American Big Truck ?? don't know which one
4. Best Mobile van ?? don't know which one
5. Limo ?? (Mercedes 600 or Bentley continental or Lexus 430 or BMW 7 ?? Don't know yet, but I need 2 ONLY and ask specialist to mod.. Sorry Rolls, cadillac and Maybach -> you looks oversized eventhough you are not )

If I have a million dollars, forget about car first, I will invest in something else, but if I have 10 billions dollars, the cars that I will buy are:
1. Lamborghini Countach 500 white (Best looking EXOTIC car, sorry Bugatti, Enzo, GT , SLR, McLaren F1 because you don't look as exotic as countach, and Murceolago , gallardo nice try, but you will never be countach )
2. F1- formula Ferrari ( Best RACING car, I will pay Michael Schumacher to train me , rent a race track every Sunday morning)
3. Best American Big Truck ?? don't know which one
4. Best Mobile van ?? don't know which one
5. Limo ?? (Mercedes 600 or Bentley continental or Lexus 430 or BMW 7 ?? Don't know yet, but I need 2 ONLY and ask specialist to mod.. Sorry Rolls, cadillac and Maybach -> you looks oversized eventhough you are not )
6. Porsche GT3 (silver) and Nissan 350Z fully Mod (Best fun street normal sport car, sorry GT2, your design is not plain enough, also sorry modena you look plain, but unluckily looks too exotic for normal drive).
7. Mod. Mercedes SL OR Mod. Boxter (for best convertible, sorry lexus and cadillac )

I like the Z, I consider it the natural enemy of the 8. There is a guy at work with a Z, we constantly park head to head, no matter who gets there first, kind of dorky yes, but funny track him down, or look out the window to see the Z found me. And it looks good, silver Z and Tit 8... perhaps I'll try to get a pic.
Will I race him? no, I already told him he would win, unless some extrodinary circumstances, like he spontaneously combusts just before we start.
I understand that the 8 is slower than a Z (sti, wrx)... Let me make this statement: THAT DOES NOT MAKE THE 8 A SLOW CAR. Way faster than any car I have ever owned.
Now a Yugo, that is a slow car.
