I agree with Elara! Jeez! Imagine all of us in a room discussing matters like this: we 'll end up like the korean/taiwanese parliament, beating each other with hatred never seen before! LOL D

Oh, and Shiri, now you're talking good, I agree with you. However, personally, I didn't care much about performance. I knew the 8 was a tad slower than a few cars, but I bought it 'cause I loved it (and day by day more women seem to love it too ) Guess many owners did the same thing.
that doesn't qualify it to be a sports car though it may perform/handle like one. ...so it IS a sports car. Performance/handling defines a car's category. Thanks for proving our point! Cheers! :D

RM, you might regret saying that, the day they make a Hummer handle like a go-kart & accelerate like an Enzo. Would you call it a sports car?

Good point, but I think we would, from a performance standpoint...of course, the porsche sport ute is fast, and handles well.....but I really can't call it a sports car....

Would you call the Subaru WRX or a Mitsubishi EVO a sports car even though they have 5 seats and 4 real doors?

How about a Suzuki Cappucino? Is that a sports car?

Dude! c'mon. If you say 'Car X has been plagued with Y problems.' & '...any monkey can slap X motor and make Y car fast..' - I am thoroughly convinced that:

1. If car X was the RX8, you would jump on the bandwagon of self-defense. Haven't you? I personally lost count of how many times I had already.

2. If Y problems are: gas mileage, flooding, weak trannies, etc & affecting the RX8, they are dismissed as: isolated, caused by missuse, fate, etc. If they occur on the Z (or any other car) they are due to poor quality and deficiencies.

3. If motor X is a rotary, then company Y (Mazda) has done tremendous improvements in technology, packaging and performance. However, if motor X is the VQ engine, then company Y (Nissan) is doing nothing else than 'slapping' a -good- engine into a car that is already plagued with deficiencies.

Please tell me whether I missunderstood the message you were trying to get through or not.

And if my synthesis is correct, please tell me how would you react -were you a Z owner. You deemed the RX8's problems as un-important, whereas you made the problems that plague the Z as intolerable.
How is all these you've come up with in any was a constructive experiment or discussion?

So you are saying that it's all a market positioning game. There is really no 'true' sports car by that definition.

Then doing a little research on what the concept of a sportscar is, I came across this definition from Websters online:

One entry found for sports car.

Main Entry: sports car
Function: noun
: a low small usually 2-passenger automobile designed for quick response, easy maneuverability, and high-speed driving.
By their definitions -which must come from general preconception of what a Sportcar is- we fail in 2 areas:

1.
small
2.
usually 2-passenger
I'll give up #2 if someone wants to argue. But....my RX8 is not small. Did anyone got a different model than I did? -And I am not saying I am not impressed with what my RX can do, but we don't hold a candle to a serious sportcar (e.g. Elise)

G35, Altima, Maxima, TL etc etc??

Ike are you serious? A good friend has a G35 and has not been able to take me in second gear yet. Granted I did have the stage 1, but come one. Those cars are so close in the 1/4 you make me laugh. The Altima and Maxima the 8 could take. And based on real world experience, the G35 is about the same. With the stage one I pulled on him until 4th and then backed off. Don't like to screw around on the streets, but we had a good stretch of open highway out in the west end of town.
I have had many cars like the accord try to race me from a light, or pull away to pass, and not once has it happened. Only car that really handed it to me was a Mustang (Modded). Wasn't even close. Think it was supercharged.

The RX8 is the size of a Porsche 911, which is usually considered a sports car. I think that is decently small.

Yes, but you're not using your imagination. Apparently the number of seats determines what is a sports car!

Pardon me while I go look at some big rig sport cars. I hear they get 0-60 in under 40 seconds.

How is all these you've come up with in any was a constructive experiment or discussion?

You misunderstood the message. Again, theis post was not about bashing the Z. I have repeatedly said it is a fine car, and in the past, I have sung the virtues of the G35. The comments about the Z front end were in response to something that was said, not part of my original post. Now, I have not heard of tranny issues with the 8, except for some noise, that is a new one...The mpg did not get me angry, unlike some here, I was doijng ok before the flash, and much better now...

I still think the flooding was caused by folks not letting the car warm up, as we are instructed in the manuel...I bought one of the first cars off the boat, and have not had the problem.

Outside of the flooding, I have never argued with anyone over there issues with the car, WHO OWNED IT.

The message is inovation v proven tech, and the inability to recognize it. It turned out like I thought it would, with "mine is bigger then yours" back and forth. You can see were I posted several times what the thread was about, but that did not stop the Z trolls from having thier say..

I found it enlightening.....perhaps some of us will look it ovewr and also find something in it..

Or, maybe I was really bored, and just threw sow s&^% up on the wall to see what would stick.

Again, like my kleggspeed joke, it may not be a thread for everyone...so again, I really do not get why you are bothering with it. I think your real problem is my political views...in which case I think this is a discussion for another thread.

So lets go back to talking about Z trolls, and how they can not acknowledge ONE THING good about our car..

I agree, the 8 is not an elise, or a s2000....of course, few cars are.

I really think the 8 is more of a GT myself

B/T/W is there anything better then chick-fill-A sandwhich with mayo? I think it is the pickle slice..mmmmmmmm

I swear half your posts must be about you racing your friends G35, I don't buy it. If it's true then tell him to learn how to drive...
Yes the 1/4 times aren't that far off (though .5 seconds is more than you think) in the mags but I have yet to see (in person) an RX-8 at the strip do better than 15s and most people are doing high 14s low 15s on this board. G35s also trap nearly 5 mph more than even the ideal RX-8 trap, that mean there is no way in hell you're pulling on one from a roll. Same with all the other cars you're disputing, they trap higher than the RX-8 and run similar or better 1/4 times.
