No, I don't agree with Ike. The cars he listed have NOTHING in common. Total nonsense. Just found a dozen of more expensive cars that are faster than the 8 in quater mile (but worse in many other aspects)
Get the M3 CSL and it beats the sh*t out of all those cars. So what? Can you get one? me, not now. would I get one if i could? of course

ZThang? ML3186?
I just wanted to join this site to set some things straight (like the TOP GEAR rx8/z track test which EVERYBODY gets WRONG).
Other than that, I like the RX8. There is a gray Mazdaspeed RX8 near one of my workplace. Very nice. Its so rare to see them in Japan.

Stay away from the Natto! That stuff is nasty, it tastes like vomit. I mean, literally, like the taste of vomit - can you remember the last time you had the flu or whatever and threw up? That's what the flavor is like.

actually no, it might take some innovation to get really poor mileage out of a small engine.

Anyone that thinks the 8 is underpowerd is not driving the 8 the way it was designed. Powere curve starts at 3500 and ends when you blow up the moter.
Lamo... Tricks ar efor kids. The Rotary will out HP the z in a street match with a good driver .. any day

yes.. pretty much you hit it on the head..
Drivers race.. per say.. A good driver trained in the ways of a Rotary should be able to out drive a good driver in a Z ..
Dont get me wrong I have always loved the Z car.. But the Rotary is a much better power plant. and the suspinsion is also far better in the 8 .. but yes.. Drivers.. good drivers ..
a good driver in a vw rabbit could out drive a bad driver in an 8
heheh I would love to see that hehe

IKE look at this months Motor trend with all the stats. The 8 was as fast or faster than the cars you listed. They had the 8 14.5 in the 1/4, and the G35 14.7
And give me a break about the whole "my friends G35" BS. I am giving stats and real world experience, and what do you provide other than your "infinite" wisdom, or should I say finite wisdom.
Oh, they also has the G35 .2secs slower to 60mph.
You talk like your word is god, yet you provide no real world experience, or hazzy stats
Here's their list, and yes it is the 238hp 8
0-60
Honda accord C 6.5sec
S2000 5.8
G35 6.2
Maxima 6.2
Altima 5.9
RX 8 6.0

In other words, our power band does not make anything significant until after 5K5 (And this is with a CZ1 https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=18178)

Thanks to an electronic drive-by-wire throttle that in our test car had a mind of its own, that was easier said than done. In fact, the distinctly nonlinear response we got from our car made performance testing difficult, rendering effective wheelspin modulation a real challenge.
Which probably explains why this car looks slower on paper than the last Maxima we tested in October 2002, requiring 6.4 seconds to achieve 60 mph (instead of 6.0) and 15 seconds flat to cover the quarter-mile. The last Maxima took only 14.7 seconds to do the same job.

In straight performance numbers, the G35 keeps the pace. The G35's 6.0-second 0-to-60-mph dash and 14.6 quarter-mile are within a 10th or two of the Type-S and 330Ci (and about a half-second down on the Z Track)

They also enhance performance. With a five-speed automatic sending power to its front wheels, the EX V-6 four-door needed 7.0 seconds to reach 60 mph and covered the quarter-mile in 15.5 seconds at 92 mph. The six-speed two-door hit 60 in 5.9 seconds and hustled through the quarter-mile in 14.5 seconds at 98 mph. Although the coupe did weigh 140 pounds less than the sedan, that's still a pretty strong testimonial for the efficiencies of a standard transmission. We should also add that the Accord manages to deliver the engine's substantial output to the drive wheels with only the barest hint of torque steer. This is not your father's Saab 9-3 Viggen.)

With the help of an 8000-rpm clutch drop and the engine buzzing like a flock of angry hornets, the RX-8 scooted to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 14.5 seconds at 96 mph. But that performance falls off considerably without a tire-frying launch. In our street-start test from 5 to 60 mph, the RX-8 needed 7.5 seconds—1.6 seconds longer than the hard-launch time, which is twice the deficit we found with either of the other cars. And despite its trim weight and short gearing (20 mph per 1000 rpm in sixth), the RX-8 also had the slowest top-gear acceleration times by a wide margin.

And from the same article....just to throw in some mud to the mix, and make you aware of when you quote magazines:
From Car & Driver -same article where the RX8 got is famous 14.5 quarter mile, and sub-6 second 0-60
Lest you think these aesthetic compliments are damning with faint praise in this sporting test, the G35 was no slouch in the performance department. Clocking 14.2 seconds at 100 mph in the quarter-mile, this G coupe was quicker than the last 350Z we tested (December 2002), despite being 137 pounds heavier (3500 versus 3363) and motivated by seven fewer ponies (280 versus 287). With 60 mph available in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 155, this is one fast coupe.

That's why I don't read Motortrend, they can't get good times on a consistent basis to save their lives. That or the Accord and the G35 were sedans and ATs. Plus I was not talking about 0-60 times, I was reffering to 1/4 times and trap speeds which indicate which car will win from a roll most of the time. The G35 and Z will trap 97-100 mph I've seen it with my own eyes and in mags, I have yet to see an RX-8 come anywhere near that. I also have yet to see an RX-8 break into the 14s out of the 3 I've seen at the races. All the other cars listed will trap higher than the RX-8, and I've seen them in person do so. I also have real world driving experience driving against most of those cars, but unlike yourself I respect the forum rules and will not talk about street racing. I've pointed out to you several times the C&D comparison where the G35C beat the RX-8 up to 130 by nearly 7 seconds, that's not a drivers race, that's a severe *** whoopin. But I suppose to you that's just hazzy stats since they don't favor the RX-8...
