rx8 vs. cobalt ss
#27
the cobalt ss really has been tearing the rx8s up in the koni challenge.
pros:
cheap
handles well
power
lightweight
big aftermarket
cons:
cheap - read: bad styling and horrible econobox interior
WRONG WHEEL DRIVE
the fail wheel drive (often abbreviated fwd) is really enough to rule it out. unless you are a stop light racer. and the size of your hp graph (your e-peepee) is all you really care about.
go test drive both of them.
that will answer your question better for you than we can. i made my choice, i know i dont regret it for instant. i think any FWD "performance car" is a misnomer.

You might be new to the site, but I'm guessing you understand the internet seeing as you found your way here. If you want to know which car is faster (I'm assuming acceleration), then it's not too hard to google.
for example: "mazda rx-8" "1/4 mile" seconds
or
"cobalt ss" "0-60" seconds
will give you the times for those cars. You might have to pay attention to be sure the times are from stock cars, but it's not too hard.
I think the 8 is the better car, hands down. If you want straight up speed, there are probably better cars than the cobalt though.

honestly how can you really compare the two. the rx8 is just pure sex. and a colbalt...well....it's chevy's focus. if you want a nice car with more power than an 8, get a 350 or something. hell go get a mustang. they are cheap as dirt now. but please, for your ***** sake...dont buy a colbalt.

You gotta be kidding! The RX8 will destroy a Cobalt SS in every way! There's not a single category in which the Cobalt SS can beat the RX8! Well, except for skidpad, slalom, braking, 0-60, quarter mile, horsepower, torque, curbweight, top speed, cost, gas mileage and Nurburgring time. But other than that, the Cobalt SS is a piece of ****!!!

if you get a new cobalt (2009) or one year used (2008), you'll win in a straight race. Get a 2007 or older, and the 8's will win...
either way, the cobalt just looks like crap. and it's chevy, who in like 6 months will be out of business (hopefully) :D

HAHA
I'm sorry, I'm gonna buy one of those little turds (yes, I think they're ugly as hell) and I swear I'm gonna plaster big ol' RX8Club.com stickers, rotary stickers, and a "Hi I'm Yax and I post in General Automotive all the time" sticker all over the damn thing, take it to a road course, and go hunt down RX8's just to prove a damn point.

Try that with a 2009. I believe that you can brake into the high 13's stock, while the rx-8 is more of a low to mid 14 car.

^...or if it was 2007 or older it only had 205hp. They didn't change the body style from 07 to 08, but the 2005 to 2007 models had 205hp, and the 2008 and up models have 260hp...all this info is stock btw.

They do have an SS that is NA. I would have a hard time believing you beat an FI cobalt ss that badly, especially the new turbo SS.
If you want power, get the turbo SS. You will love the power, price, and decent handling, plus the great after market.
Turboing the 8 is no easy task and will require many hours of research and a decent background knowledge of cars (to say the least). You sound like you want the 8 but want power. My advice would be to check out the "major power upgrades" section to see what power results were, cost, as well as difficulty and you can then come to your own conclusion.

Ahh ya i read that before and laughed, just didn't know what you guys were referring to.
Pretty funny i must admit.
And who gives a **** if the cobalt is faster, it's ugly as hell and it'll brake down 10x as much and the warranty will be no good after 6 months when GM goes out of business.
