rx8 vs GTI vr6

Look at the 2006 GTI VR6
The 2006 model gets restyled from 2005 plus has several enhancements. It was released in Europe last year - I've seen them in London and they look great.
I decided not to wait to compare - they won't arrive in Canada until the fall, even then they will be rare for the first few months of their availability.
Here is a link to a pretty thorough review:

The GTI vr6 (notice I never said golf) is all leather on the inside and is 240 HP. If you can't answer the original question, then don't waste everyones time

The only AWD GTI is the R 32
The VR6 GTI is FWD. Between an '05 GTI and RX-8, I prefer the 8 for overall performance, however the VW has more trunk room and the rear seats fold down, making it a slightly more useful car if you carry large items around.
From all accounts the '06 GTI is a great improvement over the current generation, so it might be worth your while to wait and drive one of the '06's

okay first of all its not the VR6, its the R32, that was made in 2004 and again in 2006. they are quick little things, I would know, I was |<--->| this close to buying one, until i saw the rx8. RX8 way more comfortable, the R32...has a back seat. sound system also sucks, performance? its loud, but doesnt have the pure rotary sound of the RX8...The RX8 is much worth it, and yes the R32 is all wheel drive

if you are looking for performance, I would say go for the 1.8T GTI. I know a couple around here that are putting out almost 300HP.
There are alot of performance options out there for the GTI 1.8T.
As for the VR6 from what I hear, its better if you want to stay stock. The aftermarket isnt as great as the 1.8T.
I will agree the GTI has a nice sporty comfortable interior but better then the RX8... i guess thats a matter of opinion.
Handling RX8 HANDS DOWN! I dont think u can pay to have the GTI handle like the RX8..
Also if you want a daily driver I think the VR6 will make a better car since it has better gas milage and a little less high maintance compared to the RX8. Unless of course you have lil ones, in which case the RX8 is easier to put the kids into a car seats.

I remember reading a test between R32 and RX-8. The 8 won, but with marginal difference.
The VW is probably more practical overall. The RX-8 is probably more RX-8 overrall. The only car on the Golf platform that competes with the 8 is the Audi TT 3.2.

I owned an '02 GTI (1.8t) before my 8. The interior on the VW is slightly nicer than the 8. Although the VW's are prone to rattling as they get older.
The VR6 in the current GTI is 204hp, and 200 ft/lbs. (roughly). It'll probably be about as fast as the 8, but won't get off the line as nice due to FWD.
The VW handles like crap compared to the 8. If you are interested in autocross, road course, andything like that they are very hard to convince out of understeer.
The VR6 is one of the best sounding motors made, IMHO. I like it better than the 8, myself.
The R32 will take the 8 in a race no problem, as will a modified 1.8t. (I've raced both)

How modified is this 1.8T we are talking about? Personally I think the VW VR6 is a nice car...A nice womans car! The car is a family sedan. Not a sports car. I can't believe some of you are comparing a sports car to a family sedan! I think alot of you are drunk 7 days a week!

The car has dyno'd just over 200 hp at the wheels w/ 220 ft/lbs.

I know thw VR6 has more potential, but the 1.8t can be made into very fast car for less $$ than the VR6.
There is a thread about this exact same thing on another forum, lots of good info:

What was the original question... I didn't see one.
By the way... is a "PLANK" an insult in your country?

Again, just presenting stats, i am a stat freak, and understand that conditions and stuff play a role, so I do see where you're coming from though-------I like the r32..they are rare, and Car And Driver says have one of the best exhausts notes out there- i'd have to agree after encountering one...
