rx8 vs supercharged eclipse

before i even start i just want to say that im not for street racing and this race was performed in safe area....

my friend just got his 01 eclipse GS (automatic) back from ripmods after getting the ripmod supercharger installed...now he still has to break in the engine but he figured he'd race me anyways...keep in mind he's running almost 20 psi....it was actually a pretty close race but i pulled out a couple car lengths in front of him...and i even miss shifted at one point too..we have a rematch in the near future, so i'll post the results of that....:D

Wow thats really sad for the eclipse. Granted he is still breaking it in but come on 20psi? What is he doing with an automatic anyway?

My thoughts exactly. What kind of race was this anyway? From a rolll or a dig, and about how fast were you going when you cut it off? I thought newer Eclipses were in the 7.5 - 8.5 0-60 range stock. Did you do a big clutch dump? This just doesn't seem to add up. If its true it seems your friend got ripped off by rip mods haha.

Well, I think my biggest question is about turning up 20psi w/SC. Maybe I am too ignorant, but I always thought that SC aplications with high boost were not too common at all.

Edit: Well, seems I am too ignorant - http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/products/units/

As someone who has seen first hand what RippMods is capable of with the Eclipse, I feel the need to stick up for them. ( I lost to a Ripp Supercharged Eclipse GT 5 speed in my old 2001 SVT Cobra [stock] from a dig up to 100 ) *By the way I ran 13.3's at 106 mph all day with that car.

First off, the car here was a GS (the weak sauce eclipse with less than 150 hp stock at the CRANK).

Second, it was an autoTRAGIC.

Third, the car was not broken in and probably not fine tuned, so the results could be quite different next time.

Sounds like an automatic 2.4l GS was being supercharged, the slowest stock model. Is that correct? I am also intrigued by your claim of 20psi? Please do tell more.

Well its makes more sense now cause a supercharged GT eclipse would destory the 8 in a straight line (and be on par with a stock cobra I suppose). But yea 20psi s/c sounds pretty fishy when I think on average daily drivers with s/c's make about 8 psi. 20 psi sounds like turbo territory but I am happy to be proved wrong.

This thread does smell a bit of BS... However, even when supercharged these cars are not impressive in the least. In order to run 10psi they would have to have signifigant engine work done, most of them are running around 5psi, 20psi is prettymuch unheard of.

KC even the a supercharged GT is not taking a Cobra in a 1/4, mile, and most of the fastest supercharged GTS cars are running mid to high 13s. I think one finally broke into the 12s just barely last year, and it still trapped below 110mph and required methanol injection race gas and extensive engine work IIRC. That's not going to take a stock 03 Cobra.

Putting a SC on a AT GS Eclipse is like putting whipcream on, well, you know... According to the Rippmods website the basic stage 1 SC AT GS makes 235 at the crank... I don't like to bash other cars, but the new Eclipse really bugs me, and they in no way deserve to be called 3rd gen Eclipses and will never be half the performance car the DSMs were.

I couldn't agree more... i had a 92 DSM.. the potential of the "original" DSM's were practically endless IMO..

Guys, I had a N/A 2001 Cobra, not the "Terminator" Cobras of 03+. And yes I was in the driver's seat when that bastard SC GT pulled a half car length on me to 100.

Granted, I didn't hook all that well on that run, but hey, I can admit defeat.

And Ike, over on club3G they have SC GT's running 12's and I believe one just hit 11.9X's just recently.

I'd like to see a link to that, I'm fairly sure that there is only one or maybe a couple cars that have run 12s. I bet the one that hit the 11.9, if one actually did, is an engine swap. But I haven't really looked in a year or so, so I guess a lot could have changed.

it's
http://www.eclipseforums.org/index.php?

and
http://www.eclipseforums.org/forum/s...threadid=31576

for track times
and the fast times are on the GT 5spd 3L v6 with Rippmods SC. I believe they run around 300 hp at the wheels with stage 2 including methanol spray.

Yep, and run 13s all day... <laughs> Couldn't find any info to confirm or deny if the one 11.9 car is a swap or not.

TIMESLIP of the 11.X run is on page 2 of this thread, enjoy:

http://www.eclipseforums.org/forum/s...hreadid=152223

The thread clearly says its the 6G72 (3.0 V6) with *fully built internals*

Geez, you guys just can't believe that these sh*tbox eclipses are capable of being quick are you?

Anything is capable of being quick... I don't think anyone is denying that it is possiblel and there are Caravans out there with far less money in mods that could blow the doors off the 11.9 eclipse. The question is, why the hell would you want to spend money on mods on one of the new Eclipses, or maybe the real question should be why would you spend money on the car in the first place. It handles like snot, it looks like a Grand Am, and it's a disgrace to the Eclipse badge.

I definately agree there. Those things are hideous IMHO. They designed them to be just like every other american car out there that is bad.

Notice I said the bad american cars, I love some american cars but it does look really bad imho.

Hmm. weird 20psi for a minute there I thought you were talking about a 2nd gen turbo eclipse. I'm boosting 20-21 psi on my daily driven eclipse. I've heard of sc boosting 8-10 but 20? dang.
