Save me from being a horsepower ho!

The new Mustang GT beat the GTO as well. Drive 'em both, then go find a Cobra. The Cobra ownzz the new GT, and you can get one for under 29K I bet, and it stickers for over 35K.
I agreed with the Rotary Revival comparison between the G35, Cobra, and RX-8 before I became a horsepower ho. Now I want to be your horsepower pimp.

Aratinga. My Dear. I believe that over this last 6 months you heart has lost the love it once had for Roxy. Ever have a friend who knows their relationship is over but they keep it going anyway? They dread "the talk" so they just keep limping along avoiding the invevitable?
It pains me to watch it drag out, and I can't believe I'm going to say this but maybe it's time for you now.

I wouldn't want one either, I hate the retro speedo. Terminators rule. I didn't know the 2003-4 Cobras were called Terminators until after I bought one. Get 'em while they last, it's the best Mustang ever made.

If you are that interested in the big gun V8s, I strongly recommend that you track down and compare a 2004 Cobra before you buy that "big Cavalier."
The Cobra is much faster, better-looking, more moddable, and not much price difference either. It's fun to own the road.

Would a 04 Cobra really own the new GTO, or are you talking about the 350hp model? Are there any numbers out on the 05 GTO yet? I'd like to see the comparison.

From what I could dig up:
04 Cobra
weight......3665 57/43 (i thought it was lighter??)
0-60..........4.5
0-100........10.4
1/4 mi........12.9 @ 111
70-0...........182 ft (yikes, good thing it'll be in front of me :D)
05 GTO
weight........3787 54/46
0-60............4.8
0-100..........11.7
1/4 mi.........13.3 @ 107
70-0............167 ft
However too have 500+ hp, it only takes about a grand to 1500 for the Cobra. Probably more like 2-3 for the Goat (unless you go with nitrous)

Ouch , that weight hurts. However, that is N/A vs forced induction, so I'm not overly imprressed with the Cobra, but I love that ls2 motor. Shed some weight off that GTO, and it's gonna be breathing right down the Cobras neck.

The GTO is NOT going to break into the 12s stock. The Terminator is a 12.5-12.9 second car stock, and is easy to get into the 11s. The 0-60 numbers I have seen are 4.5-4.6 for the Cobra, 4.8 for the 2005 GTO. Close, but no cigar.
I've not heard anyone claim even the new GTO can keep up with a Terminator stock for stock, but if any of you have, let me know. For those who care, the Terminator is not likely to be stock anyway. It is easy to get 450 RWHP and TQ out of the car with simple bolt-ons (CAI, exhaust, chip, pulley), and with a Kenny Bell SC, over 600 RWHP is attainable.
Those guys are going after Vipers and Z06s, not GTOs. It's an amazing car. I'm about to start working on mine, I'll post the graphs when I do.

I wont be helping much, I sat in a GTO (fron & back) and that car is COMFORTABLE! The rear seats have even better seating that the 8 and the interior quality is the best I've seen from GM (heck...it's better than the 05 Mustang & 350Z).
I never got to test drive a GTO (I wish I could have), but I think it's a pretty nice car.
The problems are:
Fat (3,750 pounds)
Poor handling (IkeWRX, while it's enough for most...it still aint sports car like)
So-so looks
The RX-8
True all around sports car
Super sexy looks
Great handler
High quality
Fast enough (for most drivers...most of the time)
Great safety rateings
That's about it...

Only someone who lives in Houston could say "F the twisties." You might try the hill country sometime.
A friend of mine was looking at a GTO and I told him to get the new Vette. Why **** around w/anything else? Id buy one in a sec if I could. I really like the new GTO but get the Vette if possible.
After seeing that pic I just went outside to hug my red 8 and tell her everything is ok and that will never happen to her.

I think you may have just proven that carfax is a load of Garbage. If tha doesn't show up, then you just saved whoever read this thread from even bothering with it. However, it's good for you down the road, so you don't lose out.

Wut da F Y'all lookin' @!
Maybe some don't consider it much of a factor but if it becomes a matter of GTO vs Cobra I think the GTO has an advantage! Maybe I'm speaking a little uneducated here but wouldn't that 6.0L have a higher power potential over the already FI 4.6L once someone slaps a supercharger on it! I know there have been some changes but I don't think it's enough that the guys who were tuning the former 5.7L can't figure it out.
On a side note I saw mention of the new Mustang GT being the cheapest 300hp that someone can buy! Can someone tell me what car can you purchase with 400hp for less than the GTO (even if you call the Cobra a 400hp car it still costs more when you go by the MSRP)!

Icon cars that I know I'd never dream of actually buying. Drove 'em and yep -- they were fun! So was the Hummer H2 on the "offroad" course (large steep piles of dirt and gravel... I didn't know you could lean a Hummer over that far without it tipping like a cow!). We took pictures of each other in the Vette. We wondered if we'd ever be old enough to really want a Cadillac. We were almost ready to go home dumb and happy...
But they also had the Pontiac GTO there. Six speed, of course. 350HP. 365 ft.lbs. torque. LS-1 motor. Shhhheeeeeit! BIG mistake driving that baby. NOW I know what torque really means. Now I know what I've always wanted a car to sound like. And John, instead of reminding me how much I enjoy Roxy and how I should be loyal to her after all she and I have been through, is furiously trying to figure out how he can transfer his purchase points from his GM Visa card to me so I can swing a down payment.
We were actually so smitten with this plain-Jane-on-the-outside, rumbling-V8-torque-monster-on-the-inside car that we started calling Pontiac dealers on the way home. Found out that most of the 2004s are gone, and 2005s are just starting to trickle in. Get this... the '05s have the LS-2 Corvette motor, making 400 HP! And I thought 350 was orgasmic enough.
I found a new black on black 2004 GTO at a dealership. Sticker: $33,190. Very first "out the door" quote (in writing): $31,905 (this includes tax, license, fees, etc) -- and I'm sure there's still wiggle room there. John, a longtime fan of GM musclecars, says this is only new car in 20 years that's ever given him that musclecar rush -- and yes, we've both driven the new '05 Mustang GT.
What do I do? HELP! Don't let me be sucked over to the dark side....
