The Scion Tc

Introducing the Celica's new replacement.

The Scion tC.

Up until now Scion has been stuck with some pretty boring, ugly, and poor performing cars (xA, xB). The tCis a step in a new direction. It is the replacement to the current Celica. It will come standard with the current Camry’s 2.4 liter 4, which has 159 HP and 162 lbs/trq. This can be complimented with a supercharger in development from TRD that will boost it to about 200 HP, and still be warranted.

The tC comes standard with a great options list for a car in it's price range. Besides the usual features found in a compact car the tC will include: Standard 17" "black chrome" styled wheels, Standard 45-series Pirelli tires, Four-wheel disc brakes (xA and xB have rear drums), power windows, locks and mirrors, as well as seats with memory for only $19,000. All features are standard.

The car looks like a great buy for those in the market. It is the first decent car made by Scion and a pretty good replacement for the Celica. It may not have the same peak numbers, but the power is now in a useable section of the power band. With the old engine you need all of the 8,000 RPM to get the real performance (kind of like the rotary, excpet I wouldn't feel as comfortable revving a piston engine like that all the time). And if you want more power than just opt for the supercharger.

The celica is due for an update, so instead of just refreshing it as a new model, they deciede to give the car to the youth division, Scion.

I have been looking for pics of the TC everywhere and couldn't find them! Kudos Cueball! The TC will also be the only car on the market with a glass roof. Thats something you need to mention to differentiate that car from others on the market. The Scion line is meant to be cheap and affordable to reach their intended market...so don't expect to see anything to crazey from the factory..

Front could be interesting, otherwise it looks like another Toyotablob car. Sorta like they design a plain shell, then inflate it with a little too much air...voila a blobmobile!

Hey 200HP? How much does it weigh?

I love my Celica , the new scion looks too conservative IMO. Even though my GTS"s engine is peaky, I still love when that VTTL kicks in at 6000 rpm, and the looks and the cockpit are gorgous, I give Toyota props for making a radical design forwhich the Celica is known for, even though it will be their last. I'm sad it is going away, seems like the smaller coupes today are getting heavier and less radical looking, not to mention that it was the lightest car in its class, Car an Driver at one point got like 73 mph in thier slalom tests, thats great!! I'm proud that Toyota gave the go ahead 4 yrs ago, Oh well , all good things must come to an end...

That exterior is SOOOO generic... nice Civictegra there.

But the interior is not bad.

And actually, those seats look almost exactly like the Sport Package seats in the BMW 3-series... which are awesome seats!

Kind of reminds me of a sebring with a MR-2S front end. Lets hope Toyota comes through with a nice supra because I don't see anything exciting about this car.

Yeah, that rear view is total Cavalier.

That's generic Japanese styling at it's worst... it's not offensive, it's not great. It just takes up space.

Yippee...

It is the replacement to the current Celica.
Are you sure?

According to Motor Trend in 2005 -->

2005 Toyota Celica: Significant update with freshened styling and mechanical changes.

<--

I've heard rumors of a Celica replacement by a "Supra", but the TC is just the Scion tC. And a very plain looking car to boot in my opinion.

Just an FYI

In the november 2003 isssue of motor trend it says:

Toyota is looking at the European Avensis model to become the third car, the xC, in Scion's lineup. The current xA and xB models are based on the small, home-market Toyotas. The Avensis is a sedan that's larger than a Corolla, but smaller than a Camry, and would be sold here in a five-door hatchback form and possibly as a wagon, too. It would be offered with the 2.4 liter inline-four used in the Camry and must start well under $20,000 to fit the Scion profile.
That sounds pretty close to what the tC is. The x is replaced by a t, but it is still pretty close. The tC is actually a hatchback type car, although it looks like a standard coupe. If you look closely at some of the rearward facing interior pictures, you'll see what I mean. It also has the Camry engine and is fully loaded at $19,000.

It also wouldn't make any sense if the Celica was continued and updated. The cars compete much too closely with each other to not cannibalize sales.

I have also seen another MT article saying a Scion model may replace the Celica, but I can't dig it up.

Ahm no!

I would not wipe my **** with this new car.

The RSX although i have sold mine is much better looking and i see no hints of it in this mistake of a car and i have a link to many rsx pics to prove it.

Im sorry hehe im still a little passionate about my ex.........ahh err RSX

http://ducky.coolrsx.com

This car is a very bad replacement for a car that had potential. this will definately be a step in the wrong direction.

Why would toyota do that? that car is ugly, nevermind replace the celica. The celica is actually a nice car...I mean their not really fast but i got a chance to drive one and the handling is really good...i love the interior and exterior, and as you can see from all the celicas on the road that sales were really good. I was actually looking forward to seeing a new celica design...oh well, I think this was a big mistake by toyota.

I remember reading somewhere that the new Celica would be completely different to the current model because of the average responce to the current model. So, I doubt toyota would replace it with a verly bland looking car because that would be a move in the wrong direction. I bet that this car will be Scions version of the new Celica - just like the firebird and camero (same under pinnings but different bodies and interiors.)

Aren't the Scion bX and aX something like 2400 pounds and $13,000?

If they make this thing with 160 horsepower at 2400 pounds for $13,000, as long as the handling is decent it will be the best bang for your buck econosport you can buy.

I think it's bland too... but then I think the RSX looks boring as hell, and that's a good car.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that. I much prefer the way the IS300 looks to the way the RSX looks.
