It's not surprising that some of you see RSX cues on the TC. Toyota's design for this car revolves around the idea of "How can we steal the Civic Community?". Kinda pathetic considering Toyota is higher than Honda in automaker ranks.
You won't be surprised when you start seeing "Civic Killer!!!" ads that would come out for this car. Yes, it's that bad. They came from Supra: the RX-7 killer to TC: the Civic killer. Someone needs to get fired in Toyota quick. They're going downhill with regards to the "tuner" market.

1) the cheapest crap money can't buy like Neon, Saturns, Corollas, Pontiac, etc. all those nice plain jane cars + any old used junk
2) The biggest, ugliest front end stuck on some SUV or pickup (umm - me tough guy with big face)
3) some american boat of a car with the requisite 60+er walking the car.
Excitment my foot, I'd call it bore-doom

To me this car looks no worse than the Civic... That being said, I think that all the FWD econo-blanks are boring as hell. If you can get Toyota quality for zilcho dinero, I think this car will sell well - example: xB is way over it's sales forcast and the xA might be at or slightly below its mark.
You guys ever thought that we aren't the target for this car? I know people who like the #$&$! Element for crying out loud! There's gotta be people who will buy these guys. Personally I wouldn't have it unless it was my efficient & disposable commuter car so I could save my 8 for real driving.

:D
I'm just not sure if the sales on the Celica are that good. I think when the new model was introduced in 2000 it was good ... but I heard it's droped off a lot since then.
Anyone know the facts?

The aztec is one of the worst vehicles ever created by human minds. The tC may not look good but neither does anything else even close to its price/performance new (im lookin at you RSX, talk about a stinker it looks like a freaking civic). Since there is little test data on the scion and I will not see one in person until they are released in June, I will have to withhold my opinion of its performance aspects but supposedly this thing does the slalom faster than a mazdaspeed miata. You know that the toyota quality will be there and I like the idea of a little 200hp supercharged 4 cyl, especially a light one. The other scions have like 108 hp and weigh 2350 lbs and are supposedly "fun" to drive. Doulble that power combined with decent handling makes for a good car no matter how bland the skin is. For the no haggle price it comes with too many standard features, including the unique glass roof, to be blown off. It does look like a toyota cavelier though. The marketing may be lame but the car isn't.

I have the same engine that is found on the Scion TC on my 4-cyl Solara. It is quite a torquey engine for a 2.4 4-cyl. If the TC weighs below 2500 lbs, then that car has the potential to beat anyone in its class off the line even without the S/C installed. I dont know about the top end, that engine is built for stop-and-go traffic.
From what I know about the engine and its vvt-i, it picks up at 4K rpms and then stays the same until 6K rpms. Not so impressive IMO. Maybe they tuned this 2AZFE version a little differently because the TC is a lighter car compared to the Solara. Who knows?

It's amazing how those xA and xB owners are installing S/C's to their lunchboxes. "Hey look Ma! My Scion runs like a real car now! Oh boy!"

the japanese keep playing it safe with body styles but sales don't lie. I guess as long as a car is reliable that is enough for most people. Another bland looking coupe IMHO

and pretty much every ford(ugly), gm(cheap and ugly), honda(boring), chrysler(ugly), dodge(garbage), in its price range. You guys are concentrating way too much on looks for a 16,500- 19,000 dollar car. Coming from rx-8's I can understand making sacrifices to have one of the coolest looking cars in the world. Not everyone is as obsessed about their appearence though. I would rather be seen in this car than a miata which imo looks totally weak and feminine. This would make a great girls car and a not shameful daily driver for a guy.

Actually the entire Scion line is pretty hideous. I know I am out of the demographic age group for this "new" car brand but I know what I like. One vehicle looks like a block the other looks like a Puma sneaker and this new one looks like Joe Generic car

Well the first two scions were JDM's and this one was created specifically for the US market. I guess they have a different idea of what looks "young and hip" in Japan. Initially I thought they were hideous too but after checking them out at the auto show I dont hate them anymore. They are cars I wouldn't want for myself but I am not upset that they are out there (like every pontiac I see).

Bummed, but bring on OU!
Other than Mazada and a few examples from some other companies, it's my opinion that Japanese exterior design has been declining significantly over the past few years.
Toyota:
. MR-2 spyder, and scion line is their idea of forward thinking. The Lexus SUV redesigns look worse than the last generation. Solara and SC430 look pretty good. Celica was also a fairly nice looking car, but if this Scion is its replacement...
Honda:
. New Accords and Civics look worse than the previous generations. Acura TSX might look ok if it didn't have that monstrous rear clip on it. RSX looked good when it was introduced but nothing special now (though i'm sure i wouldn't like it's redesign either, the way things are going). The Element is just ugly. S2000 is a beautiful car. NSX is way overdue for a revamping, but still looks good.
Mitsubishi:
. I don't like much of anything they have, as far as looks go. EVO looks ok, but I can't stand the factory wing. Eclipse might look ok if it wasn't replacing the previous design.
Subaru: Looks like they may be turning it around with the new Legacy. The Forrester is borderline hideous. WRX/STi look ok, better now that the old headlights were changed.
Nissan: Other than 350Z/G35c, nothing they have really catches my eye. Maxima looks decent, and I guess that means the Altima does also (since they look almost the same to me). Not sure what to make of the FX suv line-up yet.
This is only my opinion. And at the risk of sounding like a Mazda fanboy, they seem to be getting it right with the 3, 6, 8 line-up.
