Short Write-up of Red 06 Eclipse GT
Last night I was on my way home but then suddenly decided to take a detour to the nearest Mitsubishi Dealership to check out the 06 Eclipse up close. I wish I would have had my digital camera with me when I went, but I didn't. First of all I'm not a big fan of the new design but wanted to give it a fair chance to show me something.
When I got there they had a Red 06 Eclipse GT in the front with a 05 EVO. I first noticed the design was not eye catching but not as bad as the pictures I've seen. The design is going to be easy to forget(kinda like when you see a Civic or Accord on the road). They first and most disappointing thing I saw was the spoiler. It may be the tackiest looking spoiler on the market. Its so small and it has a silver/chrome color look to it. HORRIBLE!
The inside is just as bad as the outside. Looks like they threw all whole punch of left over parts from another car into it. The bucket seats looks like a 300 lb man could fit in them and there is a 0% chance of fitting someone in the back seat!
I think the only things I like about this car are the wheels and the engine. Good thing it puts up some pretty nice numbers because they have nothing else to rely on. In my book Mitsubishi has put themselves into a bigger hole than they already are in.

Motor Trend and others are calling the new Eclipse the best ever, and they say it blends all the favorable characteristics of the previous 3 generations together to make a pretty good car.
I personally think the car looks great from the three-quarters view and from the rear, but the front is boring and unoriginal. The engine is supposed to be pretty good, with a smooth power delivery.
All in all I would never buy one, but it's certainly an improvement over the last-gen Eclipse.

Considering the cars I think the Eclipse one looks more ricey. Now put the STi or Evo spoiler on a Civic and I totally agree. That chrome bling bling thing is awful as are the clear tails on the Eclipse.

I stumbled upon this as well...
Taken from http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...gm_recall_dc_3
Separately, NHTSA said Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (7211.T) is recalling 1,151 2006 model-year Eclipse cars in the United States due to possible defects in the braking system.

The Eclipse's spoiler is tasteful. The other two, regardless of the car's 'heritage', are trash and should be ripped off and burned.

The brake issue has already been remedied. It's nice to see that Mitsu caught this SUPPLIER problem so early, and addressed it swiftly.
No incidents were reported as a result of the brake booster issue.

I hear you. Looks are always subjective but I'm pretty sure most people are leaning towards my direction as far as the 06 eclipse is concerned.

Here's a fairly amusing discussion/argument thread from another forum, where a Mitsu salesman comes in and tries to tell everyone that this car will be on par with the 350Z and RX-8.

^I agree. I held off judgment til I saw one in person and I think it looks good.
If I wanted a V6 coupe and was buying solely on looks, Id pick this over the Z everyday of the week.

That spoiler is also how you open the trunk, there is a little touch button at the base of it that pops the trunk. Does look little out of place but as noted no where near as bad as some spoilers out there.

When you read reviews in US magazines, make sure to read the sidebars.
If you read the car and driver review, and ignore the sidebars, the car sounds pretty awesome. However when you read the whole thing, you find comments on the absolutely absymal handling, poor weight distribution, yaht like roll, and rather poor feedback anytime you turn the wheel. Its really odd, cause if you just read the reviews, they praise the handling...the turn right around and bash it in sidebars. Maybe thats the new way of doing things...always put happy reviews in the main section, and then put the real reviews in the sidebars.
Everyone likes the engine though!
One issue I see with the car, is there is no mesh on the lower section of the radiator insert (see rx8 syndrome).
I see a bunch of broken condensors and destroyed transmissions due to this. (The ATX version mounts the transmission cooler in front of the bottom of the condensor...no mesh).
I am greatly anticipating TopGear, 5th Gear, and Best Motoring International reviews of this car...those three tend to give a much less biased review. (If it sucks, they tell you flat out it sucks).
