Skyline v.s the U.S Government

Not sure what the fuss is about on that thread. They aren't having a problem with Skylines, sportscars, or foreign cars (as the varying ranting suggests), just illegally imported cars, which I have to agree with them on.
They are vague about ones imported solely (and truthfully) for track racing, although fighting that battle would be costly and probably a lost cause unless it was clearly specified from the beginning, because even if it is track only, if it wasn't imported with that defined, then there is falsification of (or lack of) documents showing it. They can prove it wasn't imported correctly, and you can't prove it was.

My team within the company I work for has cost ~$300,000 so far this year, including travel, payroll, etc... We have recovered just shy of $1,000,000 YTD through August. And while we don't target the same subset of thieves that these guys are, everything is very very similar in operations, methods, etc...
Granted, this is a government thing, so it probably isn't as efficient as we are, but I have trouble agreeing with the "OMG it's costing us tax payers to do this!" If they weren't doing this, then the tax payers would have to shoulder more of the rest of the costs of the government, because these evaders aren't paying like they should be.

Edit:
I am not sure why lack of being able to do it legally justifies doing it illegally?

I've looked into importing all kinds of cars.

Didn't the guys that ran that company (insert name here) that imported skylines all get indicted? How would you like to have your 8 stolen and shipped to Cuba and sold there like a normal used car?
#12
true that i guess i wasnt thinking of where they were coming from (the circumstances) but now this makes a little sense

well all skylines that were not imported to the U.S by motorex are not legal. they screwed up when to get past obd2 testing on r34 they claimed that they were all 95. when the feds found out they had already certified over 92 skylines.
#15
Why would you want them to continue doing it?

^ ok stop being a kid if you dont care about the world doesnt mean no one does HOWEVER i dont agree that they are ALL defrauding the government if i have the money and want a skyline and cant get one here i WOULD import it LEGALLY and they would eventually come after me too at least from the sound of that letter they would

People are getting ridiculous with their political views. Saying this has anything to do with obama is just plain ignorant. This isn't due to anything new. This has been going on and has always had legal issues surrounding it.
You can classify it as a right being taken away from us if you want... but then so is murder, theft, vandalism etc. They could definitely be a little more reasonable/lenient with the importation of cars but there needs to be some restrictions. I'm not even sure if I would go as far as to say this is a waste of government money... It's just regulations and if it wasn't for people trying to find loopholes or falling into legal-gray areas to get what they want, then it wouldn't have to come down to this.
If you want to see a giant waste of money, look at some of our military spending... such as the development of the F-22 raptor and it's maintenance lol.

You can bring the car over as a "track car" I for get what they call it. You just can reg it with the DVD as a street car. There is a **** load of paper work that has to be filled out the right way and your better off taking that to someone that knows who they are paying off I mean what there doing *best motoring*.

That sucks for anyone who is going to have their car taken away. However, they knew the risks when they cheated the system.

this is all about money ... justice my ***
I bet if any of the owners start "settle" this thing with the government like "hey I really like my car so how about this, I just gonna pay you guys another 50-100K, and you guys will leave me alone alright?"
I BET the so called "oh we're seizing your car cuz EPA and DOT blah blah blah" gonna sucker up and like "ok, you can keep your car, just send your payment to ..."
