So it's been 1 year in my GR STI. Comparisons inside.

I know how you feel about The canadian winter. I live in Montreal... winter can get pretty bad here, sometimes AWD are nice. But I didn't want to get one cause of the styling and basically don't really like it imo.
I have the rx8 in winter and it's fine, but AWD are alot of fun in winter that's for sure. Each to his own i guess.
Good luck.
BTW, stop with the fanboi thing omfg. Leave this guy alone, if you don't like him then dont post and share your negative ideas.
One last thing, 14mpg is terrible, i get around 23 mixed
Thanks for dropping by.

Well as a self-described expert in physics, he's in need of coming out on top of every discussion, so it's only going to end when he ends it with the "last word".
The whole thread is about as dumb as arguing beer is better than wine. I enjoy my 8, but am not going to make a habit of driving it in winter. Nor am I going to drink wine at a NASCAR event or beer in a French restaurant.

what this your first post?? :

No upgrades under 10$k would have made the 8 as fast as the sti. Even now, is there a good powerful turbo kit available?

You must not see many turbo 8s then. I agree with some of your comments but this one shows ignorance. Not looking for a bitch fest about how superior the STi is over a RX-8 from you but your statement is somewhat wrong and misleading. Granted a FI modified 8 may not be as quick in a drag as a modified STi but your making comments about two different styles of cars. My 8 is FI and done quite nice and I have no problem keeping up with mild modded STi s on a road course. To each his own though.

The latest iteration of all the turbo subies look horrible imo, wrx, STi, LGT if not for 1/4mi times they would sell zero to enthusiasts, actually they havent had a "sports car" since they discontinued the SVX now that car with STi powertrain would sell some tickets. Im happy youre happy but everyone here could have gotten an STi but didnt after test driving and looking at an 8 sitting on the lot. In the 8 i dont feel the need to hwy race or stoplight drag other drivers, theres no skill in that if you cant launch a MT you should be in an automatic, in the 8 its me vs. the road (heel and toeing a nice twisty back road preferably).

I don't see why everyone's tripping about the responses here. They seem reasonable, if not a bit defensive. I mean, this guy has had his STI for a year, and comes onto an rx-8 forum and posts a thread all about the superiority (in his opinion) of his car, in the "rx-8 discussion" area no less. His ramblings about his tuning work, whp and quarter mile times all indicate he is not interested in the driving dynamics of the RX-8 that most people here appreciate, but rather, would like to have a **** measuring contest.
This shouldn't be a discussion about STI vs. RX-8. Others have already highlighted the differences between the two cars. At the end of the day, neither one is better than the other. That's why they both exist. It's a free market, and people have the choice to buy whichever cars appeal to them more. The 8 is plenty quick enough for me, but I guess in the ongoing horsepower wars, people will always want more power/torque to smoke the guy in the next lane at the stoplight. American muscle lives on, even if it's mostly in Japanese/European cars nowadays.
Then again, I'm from California, so I should probably stfu.
But anyways, to conclude, allow me to introduce you to a website that could be of help to the OP. It's called google. When you go there, you'll see a box where you'll want to type "subaru sti forum", upon which you'll find 3 or 4 sites that should better suit your needs.

Exactly! You are surprised when you come to an RX8 based forum to find people that like the 8 better than the STi. Duh!!! Of course this was going to be the outcome of this thread.
OP - you can try and be as civil as you want about it, but you will find lots of others who do not feel the same way you do about your STi (in this RX8 based forum). You trying to argue your point is useless, as you have found out now.
I was born and raised in SoCal. Does this mean I have to STFU too?! Not sure what your comment about being from CA meant....
I think Police hit the nail on the head. The RX8 is a fun car and so is the STi.

I'm on other forums, don't worry. I've been using the net before google even existed.
I'm only defending what was said in my first post. If people want to measure *****, fine. Mine is on the table since i started this thread.

So be a good friend to yourself and read before posting.

Having a nice looking car with no ***** is like having a nice looking girl with no brains.
So did you read the whole thread and did you finally understand the whole "california" deal?
I hope you did

I thank you sir.
Although I must admit that i'm losing my temper and my social graces are getting pretty thin :D
I've said this before and I must say it again. I loved the 8. Don't make me hate the people who still do.
As for a GR on the track, the performance about the same, yet ever so slightly better than previous gens. Just watch out for gutted ones with sticky tires.

One member makes a statement and is from CA and now everyone from CA needs to STFU?!
Still don't get it...
You started out with good intentions and you let our not so friendly members get to you (and are surprised). You can't win in this setting. Its like going to a Raiders game in Oakland and wearing a Broncos jersey, bad things are bound to happen....

My god, feels like this whole forum is fueled by rancid crapgas. This place sure changed since I came.

It's nice to see fair play in a not so fair place.
I thank you sir.

If I wanted to, I could say anyone who lives in Canada must be a tool for choosing to live in such a terrible climate, thus causing them to "need" AWD, adding weight and taking away performance from their car. But I wouldn't do that. I have family up there, and I know not all people from a community are the same.
Anyways, it's turning into another classic case of internet arguing, aka the special olympics. I hope you enjoy your STI, or continuing on your brilliant girl metaphor, the "girl with the nice personality" (aka the fat chick).

I think you lost all hopes of appearing civil and reasonable a while ago. And instead of generalizing all people in a group based on the opinions of a select few, why not try using logic? It never hurts.

You can hate anyone anywhere, that's your choice.
Yes, i must admit that this thread went to crap. You are really helping with the fat chick non-sense. really. If my fat chick can outrun your not-so-light, tiny-balled *****-shaped shell well thats your choice. I upgraded. hah.
Really, rx-8s lacks *****. Stock form. Anyone arguing with this is blind or stupid. Sure it's pretty and handles very good, but it doesn't really go fast.
If you like the sound of a vacuum cleaner when you WOT, that's fine by me.
Oh and i'm really expecting your replies....
At this point, you can ban me i see no reason why i should care

Either way it really doesnt matter. I just thought it was funny.
Nothing has changed, except the fact that you think that you can come on here and say that the STi is better and expect not to get beat up on. STOP!
As I said before you tried to keep it civilized and let others get to you. Then helped turn this into an STi vs 8 battle. Everyone knows that the STi can beat an RX8...
Your point has been lost, just be done with it and move on. Enjoy your STi and most of us will enjoy our 8s.

Thanks for the comparison. I always like when people give honest reviews.
I really do like the STi. I want one bad.
Stock vs Stock, of course STi > RX-8. But honestly that's like saying Ferrari > STi, of course we all know that. LOL the RX-8 isn't in the same category/class as the STi/Evo, those are factory turbocharged, all-wheel drive rally rockets. The RX-8 makes no pretensions to be a straight line burner.
The RX-8 DOES handle better (stock v stock again) than the STi/Evo/350Z etc, no one can really dispute that. Beat them in the twisties! LOL famous last line of most 8 owners.
Overall I feel a lot of people buy the RX-8 for all the wrong reasons. They are expecting the 3rd Gen FD RX-7 in modern form or some incarnation of a great handling and looking Evo. They are pretty disappointed the first time they mash the accelerator, but most of these people *should* be discouraged from purchasing the 8 during the test drive...yet a lot still pull the trigger and buy it then bitch about how slow the 8 is...I don't get it?
I decided to have the best of both worlds- my car still goes like hell in a straight line, fast enough to pin me HARD into the seat and spin tire through 2nd gear, handle like a monster, and IMO it looks better than any Evo/STi (but that's obviously highly individualized and subjective). I also enjoy the fact I don't run into many other 8's out there, let alone VERY FEW modified ones. Every STi/Evo has at least and intake/exhaust on it! It's much harder to be a player in those markets and unique without dropping a very large sum of money into your car.
Of course with the money I've put into my 8 I could have a 500-awhp STi or a 680ish-awhp Evo

I hope your post had alot of readers because your post spoke the truth.
I loved the ride of my 8. SURE AS HELL rode better than my Heavy Fuji machine.
But, as you said, RX8 != RX-7.
