325hp out of a 2.0L would require something like 26lbs of boost.

one more example why to sell your 8. even pontiac can make faster and realitvaely sports car now. freak. what is the point with my rotary. hope mazda speed miata comes faster.

sorry i am bitching. but i am extremly unsatisfied with the power from my 8 now.
becase i just finished one of my project car, 1988 pulsar.
i replace engine with sr20det. now that car is faster then my 8 and corners better. i am kind of sad.

Your RX-8 is just as fast now as it was the day you test drove it and bought it... Don't blame the RX-8 or the rotary for your poor buying decision. Trade it in and get something faster, bitching isn't going to make things better.

You could always do some kind of motor swap in your 8. If ppl can throw in a V6 and V8 in a Focus. I'm pretty sure you could shoe horn one inside the 8 and make it faster.

Have you seen one in person yet? I think the current style is far better and less garish than the "GXP" version.
Oh my GOD, I agree with IkeWRX...the end is near......

I think some people have a little playa-hating problem, because the Solstice looks dang good. I just came back from the Autoshow in motion and that little car looks great. They will sell a bunch of them I'm sure.

But how "official" is that picture anyway? Looks largely photochopped to me

Come on Steiner, you drive an EVO. You should know better. The EVO's 4g63 is capable of 350 whp on less than 26 PSI.

After seeing a few stock and modded Solstice's at SEMA, I gotta say ... they're gorgeous! It makes me jealous, but at least Mazda snagged the lead designer and hopefully he's working on the next generation of Mazda sports cars right now

Pontiac has official information about the tubro charged GXP and a couple pictures of it in yellow here....as well as some better pics here.

I'm a little disappointed on the performance increase though. They estimate 0-60 "under 5.5 seconds" which comes out to about a 2 second improvement over the standard model. I assumed the GXP was going to put down numbers equivalent to the GTO. Instead of using a turbo with the same 2.4 liter from the standard model, they went with a 2.0 liter engine instead.

Also I think it's pretty ridiculous that they're going to have the GXPs out later this year...when I've seen less than five Solstices on the street. The other night I saw a dark blue one in a very brightly lit gas station and it was stunning. Definitely the color I'd pick. It's easily the best looking new car you can get right now under 25k and has acceptable performance. If I lost my 8 in a bad collision, I'd probably go straight to one of those next.

Anyone know why they went with the 2.0L instead? I'm guessing it's because they used the same engine supercharged in the Cobalt SS.

The 2.0L is built for boost. They've been using it in Saabs for a few years. Forged crank and connecting rods, all aluminum (block, heads, pistons...), sodium cooled exhaust valves, 9.5:1 CR and 12.5psi on the current supercharged rendition. GM doesn't need to be developing new boosted 4 cylinders, they have enough problems. Besides, the 2.0L is a great engine. The aftermarket can easily gain a few horses for it.

So 260hp?

Isn't this the same engine in the Ion Redline/Cobalt SS? The turbo instead of the s/c makes that much difference?

Sorry to bring this thread back up but I remembered it from a while back.

Yeah, MT just reported that it will have 260HP...so it's going to be pretty dang fast, good job GM!

...I'll say it before other do, yes...this most likely means it's going to be faster than the RX8, yet....I don't care because I need my back seats!

I agree. I saw the Solstice at the Chicago Auto show and sat in them. They're very nice.
