on topic:

i distinctly remember there was an autoweek article on the evo, about warranty woes, where its common practice where mitsu dealers were looking up SCCA lists and voiding the warranty of owners who were competing in their EVO. Im too lazy to dig through my big *** pile of old autoweek magazines, but i think thats the jest of it. Im not sure if it talked about waranty being voided because of mods alone. but i dont think so. -this article is what caused all the commotion about mistubishi waranty voiding, then things got out of hand as people pass along the info and started making up stuff about it.

as far as mods voiding warranty, its not just a mitsu issue, its pretty consistent accross the industry, Mazda dealers arnt much different in that regard compared to mitsu dealers.

heres the gigantic thread about the mitsu warranty voiding saga
http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=87435

http://autoweek.com/article.cms?articleId=103427 - just a new article about the aftermarket and warranty and SEMA.

I don't think anyone here is saying that Mitsubishi hasn't done some questional things with warranty work. That story showed up in Autoweek and a couple other publications because of one very large famous thread on evom. Yes, it did happen, is it as a widespread as some make it out to be, absolutely not. In fact I'd say Abbid's story is far worse than what happened to this guy.

here's the thread that spawned that autoweek blurb, have fun and ignore some of the idiotic things people come up with in that thread...

Lets face it, all manufacturers are cracking down on warranty claims and mods. Subaru and Mitsubishi were some of the first that had to really make a big deal out of it. If I mod my car and track my car and get caught and denied coverage, I have no problem with that. You're a moron if you think you can abuse a car like that and then deserve coverage when you break something.

i know i was just pointing out that the infamous waranty voiding thing is because of people taking their cars to the track and compete, not becuase they put a mod on the car.

You want proof? It’s very simple. The RX8club is a home for RX-8 owners and interested enthusiasts. As a non-owner, you are still a welcomed guest in “our house”. But you treat us with little consideration or respect, often belittling the 8, exaggerating its weakness, and down playing its strengths.

You’ve got thousands of posts about a car you don’t own nor drive, with no intentions of ever buying one. So you’ve got very little real RX-8 experience to draw from, just internet hearsay. Yet you’re glued to this forum, ready to preach gospel whenever you get the chance. (Talk about talking out of one’s ***.)

It’s one thing to express opinion. But when you rudely jump on other members, with delusions of being a super hero and no ownership experience to speak of, that’s what I call BS.

‘Ave a nice day.
