I was just wondering, with a new Volkswagen GTI R32 AWD coming sometime in 2008, Mazda should have a Speed 3 AWD to compete with. I wouldn't even think twice about getting one.

That's something for them to look into after this two year run is over, then have it be part of the regular lineup with the next generation 3. With this engine, one would think Mazda would start using it regularly in the 3 for the top of line model, so since the Mazda 6 will be coming with available AWD and the 6 cylinder engine, a next generation Mazda 3 with AWD and this 2.3 turbo engine would make perfect sense. Whether they choose to compete in that market, or stick with the FWD market is unknown. We'll see.

Probably not, since Mazda only makes a limited production of 3,000 MS3 or so. It won't be a bad idea though.

It's not out of the question. I spoke to one of the people who really matter about this very same topic and he indicated that they've wanted to and that platform is already designed to take it.

I don't think it's going to happen with this generations 3... but in a year or two when they introduce the next generations 3, I would say it has a good probability of materializing.

What I would like to know is, what kind of engine development will go into 2.3 MZR. Actually, that may be a good topic for a new thread, I'll work on that.

you never know, we might see a 2008 speed 3, the sales of these turbocharged FWDs are good.

I think the question is when the next gen mazda3 will come out.

I'd still like to see a MS3 in sedan form. I was behind one yesterday and they are nice looking little cars. Put AWD on it and 300hp and that could get real interesting.

Can't buy the limited production claims. The Speed 6 was said to be limited in beginning, but they ended up making a crapload of them, hence the overstock and super deals. Mazda will make as many Speed 3s as the market calls for, so I'm guessing that we are gonna see a huge jump in production over the next year, and there will be tons of them on the roads, and at dealerships. If they produce it in sedan form, it will sell in even larger masses.
