Speed 6 Returns

Speed 6 Returns
It’s believed that the model will use a turbocharged version of the 6’s all-new 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, pumping out around 280bhp, so it will have the punch to back up the looks.

Very minimal gains compared to the first one I own. I was thinking along the lines of 300hp. Is it heavier? Well it will have better looks, so that counts for something. EIther way, sweet machine. I'd take one over mine any day.

Not to kill the fire, but that's a UK read. They have a different model Mazda6 than the US will get this summer (as in a different platform). If I'm not mistaken, Mazda6s outside of the US get built in Japan, while the North American version will be made in the U.S.
Since there's two different platforms, and two different building locations, I'm not sure the Mazdaspeed6 may come to the US. I know there was a speculative article about that a while back on here, but I couldn't find it.
I sure hope that's not the case however, I would put a Mazdaspeed6 on my short list to consider.

If anything, the hindrance would probably be the US marketing dept.

I don't see why it would be so hard to bring the Euro-spec over with tweaked emissions and fed-spec bumpers? After all, the schmoe sixes were US-assembled while the speed sixes were Japanese-assembled. Clearly, the enthusiast crowd doesn't care for the extra girth of the domestic version.

But that's not to say, like you pointed out, that they can't do it with some smart marketing or import options, or anything else I can't think of.

Agreed. THe Speed 6 was never a car I'd have even considered getting, but once the incentives allowed me to get one for less then $24k, I suddenly thought " this is a damn good car. I love it from a daily driver standpoint, but enthusiast wise, UMM NO!! Too heavy, too luxurious. Looking at those numbers, and seeing the poweroutput isn't much higher, it's likely gonna come down to looks and refinement, so my guess is, you'll be disappointed.
