It has a very advanced air suspension to handle all the power. The 8's upgrade would probably be less expensive and produce a harsher/stiffer ride reducing ride quality and comfort.

Any 300hp/ 3000lb sportscar is a kill machine. There's just not much out there stock that will take it on curves or straight line.

If you upgrade yourself and do it right expect 5 grand+ for turbo and suspension upgrades. Realistically price will have to rise from present Msrp's. I'm not power hungary and enjoy the car the way it is.
again your logic is extremely flawed

of COURSE if you modify your suspension will your ride quality and comfort drop dunce, with your original statement that power will decrease ride quality and comfort you never said anything about a conjuncted suspension modification(which actually is also false because you dont need to modify your suspension because you added 70hp, its a nice thing to have, but its not necessary by any means)

All I know is my rx8 is > then all in the twisties. Sometimes I find mountains to play on and I see sti's that think they can hang. I bait them into a race and always win because my 8 has weight reduction and a k&n drop in filter. The 8 is an engineering marvel and I'm suprised it is so cheap since it is hand made in Japan by highly skilled humans with precise tools that you can't get at home depot. I know on paper the 8 lacks a # or 2 but it makes up for it on the twisties......did i mention how fast the 8 is in the twisties? well it is and I've killed nuff cars like sti, evo, vector and delorean.

[QUOTE=dos]The comparo he is doing is two stock cars in the same price range. Many people that are looking for a new car may look at the STI(4cyl turbo), 350(V6), G35(V6), etc... Put the same amount of money that you put into turbo your RX8 into the STI and bye bye RX8.[/QUOTE
but it's still gonna look like an sti

its a good car, im going to actually have to give in about the Sti part and agree with you dark batman or whatever for once. i used to think the sti would out do the 8 in the twisties but in a lot of really tough roads the rx8 will come out on top, i know from personal expereince while the STi has a superbly designed suspension and awd system where you can just pour on power out of turns the car is simply too tall to toss as fast as an rx8 regardless of its power suspension and tires, you can put a 1500 dollar set of tires a 30,000 dollar set of zeals and 500whp worth of turbo mods and i'll take an sti in a really technical road in an rx8.

Ya but you didn't factor in that M.J.Fox weighs 50lbs soaking wet with a helmet. And 1 twisty power is equivalent to 100 whp to the power of 8. I just can't make this stuff up. This kind of info should be in the bible.

goddamn that thing sounded nice.

wonder why he pussied out and tuned it to 300hp, people consider 500whp an extremely conservative tune for a 20b

Good bump, DARKMAZ8!!
Surprise, surprise...roaddemon is the first to post even though he has absolutely no clue about the STi.

Just an FYI for those interested in factual information (I know this is general frowned upon on this forum)...in C&D's latest and greatest tests for both the RX-8 and the STi, the RX-8 pulled a 0.88 on the skidpad and the STi pulled a 0.92. A stock STi is a very stong handler, and an upgraded front sway bar ($150) makes the handling even better. Going from the RX-8 to the STi, your driving style has to change because the STi is not as tossable, but that doesn't mean that it is slower in the twisties.

You missed a lot lastnight, Roaddemon almost blew a head gasket, but Ajax deleted a bunch of posts to get the thread back on track.

i also agree with you eric, the STi is an excellent performer, i had one for a few weeks to dick around with and it kicked ***, but if i ever bought one of those econo4banger rockets id get the Evo even though its the japanese car manufacturer i hate the most by far.

What!?! No, not roaddemon. He is so much older, more mature, and more knowledgeable than anyone else on this site. How could he blow a gasket? Was it because you were making fun of his wussy bike?

Too bad I missed it. I usually don't spend much time online when I go home. I just use the forums as a break at work. You know, I'll spend some time developing and designing solutions to issues with some of the most advanced and sophisticated flight control electronics in the world, then I'll hop on here to attend one of roaddemon's lectures on why his $25K mid-level, 4-door, sporty coupe is classes above the STi and Evo and shouldn't be compared with either since it should be compared to the BMW 645, MB CLK500 and Porsche 911 Carrera.

It all depends on what you want out of it. The general concensus (at least around nasioc) is that the STi has better road manners (due to better low-end torque and a bit softer suspension), but that the Evo is the superior track machine. The problem I would have choosing the STi right now is that now that Subaru has dropped the 2.5L in the WRX, I'm not entirely sure that the price difference between the STi and the WRX is worth it. Of course, the STi still gets the bulletproof tranny, bigger turbo, better suspension, etc. I'm just waiting for the next redesign of the STi. They will have to up the power to match the WRX's increase.
