It's amazing how difficult it is for some people to accept the fact that there *gasp* may be another car out there that is better in areas other than looks. Not to mention even that is subjective, I loved the looks of my 8, probably more so that our STi, but once you drive one to it's potential, you'd be surprised how much better they look.

It's kinda like a hot chick who's decent in bed or a decent chick who is hot in bed. In the long run, I'd take the decent chick. There's more to life than looks alone

Yer decent chick has a picnic bench strapped to her ***, and you had to pay her an extra $7000 to take her home. With the right amount of money, I can get my hot chick to do anything.

I actually paid less for the STi than I did my RX-8 so that kinda shoots your argument WAY out of the water for me. Unlike the 8, there aren't hundreds of STi's sitting at dealerships going for 5-6k under sticker/invoice just so they can get rid of them. You know what that does to resale/trade-in?

When I purchased my RX-8, I like many people at the time, were happy to not pay more than sticker for it. They were rare and more expensive, now that's not the case. If you pay sticker for it you're stupid. I paid 35k (sticker) for my RX8 in November of 03, when I purchased my STi I paid 32k (1k over invoice) and that was because I had to custom order it.

And if you makes you feel better, I don't like the wing and it will be replaced by a WRX wing.

I'm not here to start a flame war, just offering my objective opinion. Something that many people on the board won't or are incapable of doing.

Entering a conversation about the relative performance/price of two cars when you've got nearly $10,000 worth of non-performance factory doo-dads heaped on the base model shot my argument WAY out of the water, so to speak. hehe

If you feel better buying a base model RX-8 and saying well I saved 7k instead of buying an STi, so be it. That doesn't negate the difference in performance. Period.

As for my RX-8, the only reason I bought the 8 over the STi originally was because of those "doo-dads". Otherwise I would have purchased the STi because of what it is, a well priced, high performance car.

Also trying to justify your opinion to me is worthless. I'm not just some STi troll looking for an argument. I've owned an RX-8 (1.5 years actually), I know what they're about and what they can do. I loved that car and it was a tough decision to get rid of it. On the flip side, I was sick of the BS with it.

Wow, you must've gotten a fully (and I mean fully) loaded RX-8 either that or you got ripped off. I didn't get the greatest deal on my 8 and it was a little under 30K (GT, with nav). Well, I leased with the option to buy but the value of the car they put on was ~29K.

The STi I drove, the guy got a great deal too. I think he did wind up paying about a grand less than I did, but it didn't come with a stereo, leather seats, or nav.

the one thing I'm surprised by is how many people use the "I'll just get mods and be way faster than Car X" argument. Sure I've seen the articles about the super modified RX-8s that companies modified that put out obscene times that would utterly embarrass STi drivers, but I'm willing to be that those modifications are very unreasonable. Ie dropping a 3 rotor in there, super high psi turbo, stripping out the back seats, high performance gas, and what not.

But by all means, once somebody has a car that can do it (and the dynos/times to prove it) that's reasonable, brag away! but it's just so premature to say it now when no one has done it, even though some people do have turbos in their car already. Just let it go until you can say otherwise and have the proof to back it up, that's my opinion.

It was fully loaded, not an option that wasn't on the car (hell it even had a cassette deck in it), which is why the price was so high. I still have the window sticker that shows 35k from Mazda. I couldn't get them to budge from the sticker price at the time since it was 1 of 2 they had and at the time they were just starting to trickle into the dealerships.

I also fully agree with your other statements.

Something tells me I'm smiling a whole lot more as I'm typing my replies than you are. I'm not totally bullshitting you, but I was having a little fun with this while passing time on a Friday at work here.

Still, it was pretty rediculous to enter this conversation with an 8 optioned out like that, and then have the attitude you're giving me.

I personally didn't mean to come off with any attitude, even though sometimes I think some of the people on here need a reality check. I suppose it just gets old hearing people ragging on other cars for stupid things. No skin off my back really, I just love all cars, some more than others. I just think it's sad that people can't give respect, where respect is due regardless of whatever petty fault they can find with it.

It's all about having fun, if you like your car that's all that should matter.

Cool. I sorta came out of the closet in another thread recently when I said the Subaru 2.5RS was halfway decent looking. Am I showing promise? lol

In all actuality, I don't think I'd buy a sweet looking but understeering AWD car no matter how good the numbers were, performance/price-wise. When I run through the twisties, it's all about throwing it into a turn, transitioning into the next one, accelerating up a short straight listening to that howl...::shiver:: pitching it into the next turn holding that perfectly sexy line...::ugh::

pant, pant

Doing all of that while pushing under power would feel as sexy as that time I had to put the previous day's undershorts on after a shower. (don't ask)

It's called "ricer math". It never ceases to amaze me. It can be an '85 Honda CRX owner calling a Dodge Viper a waste of money because his $8k modded, wheel hopping, torque steering, overheating, shitbox is slightly faster in the 1/4 mile. It can be a '86 Mustang owner calling a Zo6 "overpriced" because his $10k modded gas guzzling, smog failing, blue smoking, rust bucket traps 3mph faster. It can even be an 18 year old SRT-4 owner who claims that, since it only took him $1k in mods to get into the 12's, a BMW M3 is slower for nearly double the price...and therefore is a terrible value.

It's not limited to young guys either. When I beat up on a VW R32 the owner (probably in his early 30's) started complaining about the turbocharger being a cheat. He said he could slap one on this weekend and it'll make my car look like a Honda Spree...but turbos are for ricers. Many people these days have way too much emotion invested and tied up in their car...it's like an extension of themself or something. In general clowns like that start comparing apples to oranges when they need to validate their choice of car. It's a form of flattery really.

The best is when they start showing up on message boards devoted to more inexpensive cars to "keep them honest"...yeah, I always feel so flattered that they took the time. We all do.

Good post. BTW, did Ike pass the eyerolling torch to you?

My car costs the same as yours. I also wasn't directing that post towards you but hey...if the shoe fits. What I said holds true in any car forum...RX-8, Evo, STi, Mustang, etc. Don't blame the messenger when you don't like the message.

I don't really care actually. Although I still haven't figured out what part of my earlier post you disagreed with. Even though it wasn't directed at you, by getting personal with me in your response it seems I'm the one who hit the nerve.

Check it out - you can gauge how far under his skin you've gotten by counting the little blue faces. lol
