Subaru SVX

Yeah, it's a real shame the SVX never came with a MT, and it wasn't exactly a great performer in it's category. But I always think it's neat seeing them on the road. Subaru has always had quirky styling, and for some strange reason I have always liked it, even long before I owned a WRX. When I was really young I though the Brats were great, and then as I got older and interested in cars I was certain the Subaru XT AWD Turbo was going to be my first car. That all changed when DSMs came to the market and I made the Eagle Talon TSI the first car I would own by selling off a large chunk of my sports card collection and making payments by working a part time job. I always loved the RS as well but after years of racing various things with my father before I was even liscensed to drive I knew I wanted something fast, which is RS was not. Ever since I owned the TSI I've been hooked on AWD turbo cars, even though I have not always owned one.

Oh, now that you mention it. Some guys from my car club and I were downtown over the weekend and we saw a Subaru XT AWD Turbo.. Nearly freaked out..
That thing is so rare... It was in fair condition. Some chics walked by and my friend was like "Is that your car?" They were like hell no... I was like.. "No apprieciation.."
They are as rare as the Turbo Legacy Wagons from the early 90's... saw one about two weeks ago..
If I wasn't saveing for a titanium exhaust...I would have made the owner a offer for that car.

Well, I've seen other links besides this, and even an official chat with someone from Subaru that says it's World Rally Experimental, but this is all I could find. Well, other than numerous threads on Nasioc and other WRX forums where people will argue back and forth between World Rally Experimental and World Rally Cross.

But most discussions look a lot like the one we just had, and I came up with about 50 links to threads like this...

I've never had the desire to own an SVX, but I appreciate the unique styling. The first time I saw one I was blown away that it was a Subaru. Now if I could just get my fiance' to understand why I need a Justy to play around with.

Also the fact that SVX stands for Subaru Vehicle Experimental.

my uncle is wanting to either sell or store his 93 25th Anniv Edition SVX[[red], 110K, 1 owner - just put in a new $3K tranny at 105K last year. he's moved to northern Arkansas/southern Missouri. From what I've assessed he's never driven it hard, it runs great and he's apparenty seldom if ever used any aspect of the stereo not even the CD player. If anyone is interested in it, PM me. [I have an AWD XT6 -it's not the worst car in the world]

There were no 5 speed SVX's made. Any that you might find have been conversions done by determined individuals.
How do I know this for sure?
I was in the market for several new cars during that time frame and spent a lot of time looking at the SVX. I loved everything about it, from the flat 6 to the strange looks.
But no manual tranny means no sale!

Wish I could remember the site I got that pic I posted. They had more SVX parts than I've seen anywhere else. They sold a bolt in manual 5spd for the car for like $1500. They also had a turbo kit, but it only made like 30hp.

The car that never was. I alway wanted an SVX, there is a window in the window.
Too heavy, transmission cooling issues. The SVX never had four wheel drive. It was front wheel drive with a clutch pack coupled rear axle. just like the haldex stuff VW and volvo are pushing.
Even the crappy US WRX has four wheel drive (junky 50/50 bevel gear)
Real subies have planetary center differentials. 45/55 coupled to automatics and 35/65 coupled to manual transmission.

needs a hood bump... 1st Gen DSM... shweet cars, DSM's rule. I will always have a "thing" for those things, so tunable and potential are unreal in my opinion. I would love an AWD subi or EVO, but I would try to rally it for sure and kill something(being a person/myself or the car) I like the fact it can look so much like a sleeper and then rip some1 a new hole. :D

the "person" would more or less be a deer lol since I would take it on the backroads........ that's why I think thr RX-8 would be more of a smart move on my part, not a lot of raw power and all beefy. I dunno maybe it's just the way I think.
