Like vudoodoodoo said - you CAN use synthetic in the Renesis. It's been discussed often enough around here! Yeah, dealers told people you couldn't, there was a tips pamphlet suggesting you shouldn't, but the oil specs in the manual do not forbid it and recent e-mails from Mazda about this issue now say that synthetic oil is fine.

Or else Mazda would have stated that you must use special "Rotary Blend Oil", as opposed to a blanket about synth in this engine.

Well, if that commercial was made when the FD was new, IIRC Mazda's official stance at that time was no synthetic in the rotary, so it would have been ironic. I think that's what the original poster meant, everyone knows synthetic is okay these days...
