Had I to do it over again, I would not have chosen the 8 because of its inefficient, unreliable, weak engine.

I think you should just wait it out.
RB sway bars for handling, and our supercharger will provide more then enough power to get you back into the RX-8 groove

When does the warranty on the rx-8 expire again???

[QUOTE=HolyCross05][QUOTE=Senna]Just bought a 2006 8. I too strongly considered the G35. Even ordered one but the dealer didn't get back to me so I went back to drive the 8 to confirm what I always knew in my heart...that I wanted an 8.
I must say that the 2006 felt different than the 2004 and 2005 8's I drove.
Did you test drive an automatic?
No, they were all MT's.

What I didn't realize at the time was how difficult & risky it is to get decent power out of the Renesis. If only it had a high-revving turbo 4 cylinder instead of the weird rotary.

I feel so sorry (NOT!!) for those front runners (like Penske) who try to hang their hat on the big buck sure thing and end up coming in short.
I guess another reason the 8 appeals to me is that the average Joe won't buy it, they'll go for the STI & EVO (which has the styling of a boring sedan IMO) instead. I don't care what you put under the hood of an STI or EVO I'd commit suicide before I signed papers on one of those!!

I do like the styling, but the interior is very "german" compared to the 8, so not quite as nice, but still decent. The 2006 has lots of great features, and I always loved the sound of the exhaust. I do love the 8, but after 2 1/2 years, I might have to stray
The only real difference in power was the torque, but after getting back in my car, and running it to 9000rpm, I still think I could have kept up
Still on the fence with this one?!

info
thx for the info, and funny you mention that, I have a client that works for a dealership and he told me the same thing.....The 07 model is coming out with some changes that will make an impact. I did go back today and test drive the car again for a longer ride......not as comfortable as the 8, and really not a lot of difference in power to the point where it I was disappointed in the 8....in fact I think from 0-60 not that much difference but as the speed builds the G35 would pull away slightly. Don't get me wrong, I think in a str8 line race the G35 with 298hp has the advantage, but not by a wide margin.
Still love the 8, but don't love the 4 sets of plugs I have had replaced over the last year, the new started, the new CAT, and new clutch ! (all under warranty, including clutch ...hehe).
And funny thing is the dealership called me and they want to put another set of "upgraded" plugs on my car not even out yet, but they said will be soon in a bulletin?? I give them credit, they have been great, but it's the "little things that are driving me a nuts. Even the dipstick replacement isn't right? now when I check the oil I can't even read the dam thing, and a piece of plastic insert comes out when I pull the dipstick?? what the hell??

ACTUALLY... the new coupe isn't going to be for MY07. It will be MY08. The new sedan was show at the New York Auto Show (I think that was the one) and all the specs and pics are out. It's freaking hot. The looks are pretty much what police34 said... family resemblence to the M in the front and overal profile. The sedan now has dual exhaust (true duals too) and the coupe is supposed to get the same treatment. The wheelbase and such are actually the same as the current model. The engine is a redesigned VQ which drops 330hp.
If you are buying new... if you can wait... wait for the new coupe (or EvoX). If you can't... buy used.

Momentum Keeps Me Going
Sorta looks like a Lexus SC in the front and it even has a Bangle-Butt in the back...interesting combination of others styling cues....do you have a front on look?

I've actually been considering trading in my 8 for the '06 G35, but would be going for a two year lease and not an all out purchase of the car. That way in two years I can just give it back and not worry about it losing it's value. By the way they have some killer lease deals going on right now, probably because of the redesign.

^^ yeah the compression is high on the '07 I believe. But the heads, pistons, con rods and such are new. The redline is up too...
Supposedly the new VQ engine has lots of headroom for more power...

I have a G35 (sedan) as well as the 8. It's funny because the performance numbers are roughly equivalent, but they are two totally different cars. The G is like a luxury cruiser with lots of easy power and a smooth ride. The 8 takes a little more work to get all the performance, and the ride and handling are much more like a race car. I like them both, but I gave the G to my wife for a reason.
