Test drove a 350Z - what POS
#77
The Chevy Camaro never was a top seller, sell wise I'd say the Z might be a Mustang. But its far superior to those cars interior wise, styling or whatever. To mimick a famous comic, The Z is as Superior to those Cars, as humans are to insects.
I think the 8 is innovative and a nice looking vehicle but being a new idea and a new car its not what I think of when I think SPORT CAR. I think Porsche r anything like it.
And sells don't indicate that, I know some think sells don't mean the car is superior it just mean that its more liked. As is the Mustang is to the Camaro. The Camaro always out performed the Stang handling and speed. The Mustang just had a huge Fan base.
The Z is not a POS but the OP is intitled to his opinion.

It wasn't as nimble, but that heavy torque and smooth even power was enjoyable. I liked the car, just not as much as the RX8. When I gave up on my back luck unreliable RX8, I looked into the 350Z again, and chose the S2000 instead. I preferred the lighter more nimble feel, but there's just no way I can bash the 350z, even if I'd never own one. It's a darn good car, just like the RX8 and S2000. I just don't see any one of these cars being better then the other. I think it's purely about personal preference. I'd like to see more objective discussions, and less tendancy for people to justify why they got their RX8, by ripping into another car. It's simply not necessary. THEY ARE ALL GREAT CARS. It's nice to have a variety, and cars that have difference strengths and appeals. ![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Posting in a worthless thread.
There are pros and cons of both the RX-8 and 350Z but based on one particular aspect I don't think you can say one is better or one is a piece of ****.
The RX-8 is a better car if you have a family. The back seats are nice, but its not as comfortable as if you're riding in a saloon. My friend drives an RX-8 and on a recent trip to atlantic city I was cramped as hell back there, and I'm only 5'9". Definately more practical if you absolutely need to haul around 2 more bodies though.
The shifter is probably better and I'm sure it handles better around corners. The uniqueness of the rotary engine is a plus, but that doesn't make it "better".
On the flip side, the RX-8 does burn oil, gets fairly poor gas mileage relative to its power output (don't give me that LOLOLOL GET A CIVIC), and the engine is not as powerful or torquey as some would like.
The 350z is a great car if you're in the market for a straight up two seater sports car. It's fairly powerful, has more low end torque and in my opinion looks better (but that's in the eye of the beholder). It's a decent car if you want good straight line performance, that also handles decently. Probably has more aftermarket parts as well (although I haven't researched this).
On the flip side the 350z loses in the practicality aspect, but its 2 seater sports car. You don't buy a 2 seater for practicality. Some argue that its gear box isn't as good as the 8s or that it handles as well. Which may be true.
Unfortunately I've only test driven a 350z once, so I don't have that much to say about it.
Anyway, one should buy the car that they prefer. I'm planning on buying a new car soon and don't care about practicality. I'm looking at a large range of cars mainly RX-8, 350z, S2000 and WRX/WRX STi. Once school is over I'll test drive all of them and see which one I prefer. I'm looking for a fairly powerful car that also has a nice gear box and handles reasonably well. So far I'm leaning towards the S2000 as I've heard great things about it, but I'll see once I test drive it.

Why is this even a ******* issue? If the OP thinks that thing is a POS, then that's his right. I for one couldn't agree with him more, I'd rather be run over by one than drive one.
See how that works, that's an opinion; it should just be ignored if no one agrees. But on here, how dare someone say anything against the 'almighty' z; it's like throwing fuel on a fire.

One of the cars that I test drove before ending up with an rx8 was the 350z. It looks great from the outside although the g35C is nicer. What disappoints me most is the interior. Talk about cheap. For the price and carrying the legendary Z badge, I expected somewhat of a an occasion interior wise. Instead I was greeted with 2003-like Altima plastics. The steering wheel bulky and the gauge pod while kinda cool as it tilts along with the steering wheel is pretty ugly. Nissan has since improved on the gauges since 05 Altimas while the Z still trudge along with the dated one.

I was considering the 350Z for a moment when I was looking for a new car, but I couldn't get past the cheap looking interior.
The exterior design is quite nice, but they really screwed it up from inside. Also, there is absolutely no trunk space. My RX8 is my daily driver so that is important.
The one thing I really dislike about the 350Z is the high beltline. Have you seen people sitting in them? All you see is the neck up. I like to be able to stick my elbow out the window from time to time.
Being a little short waisted, the lower part of the window would probably be at my chin while driving. Not my idea of looking cool while rollin'.

I was pretty sure the G would be the car for me as I was fond of the Z track coupe, but needed the space of a 2+2 and a real trunk. I was also keen on the styling. Somehow all the virtues of the z were lost in the G.
The Rx8 fell into my lap and I love it. If I didn't need the space it would be a tough call between it and the Z. Both are great.

Definitely. The first time I got inside a G35 I was blown away by how cheap it looked. I must have read 100 different times "the G35 is so better than the Z because it's 4 seater and has a much nicer interior". I honestly think these people had never even seen the inside of one. Supposedly there have been some improvements in the 2007 model, but what a train wreck the early models were.

Playing the "understanding sports car appreciator" who seeks the merits of every vehicle on its own, while trying to shame the opinionated fanbois on their "immaturity", is just a complete drag.
It's fun to bash vehicles using sarcastic and exaggerated statements. It can be used to show off the individual's fine taste in vehicles, or can be used as a form of entertainment (Top Gear). In terms of enjoyment, vehicle bashing comes just behind bashing names in professional sports with your pals, such as calling his favorite player "garbage".
In our example here, anyone who bought a new rx8 could have easily bought a new 350z instead. But they didn't.
I look back today, knowing what I know now, on my initial decision to pursue buying a Mustang, and I just have to laugh at my former self. What a fool. I can't believe I was so wrongheaded. So, if I were to bash a Mustang today, it would be a way to demonstrate to myself how far I have come in my appreciation for cars, an attempt to connect with others in order to validate my feelings, and a way to express my disbelief that so many still are just as I was at one time. It's a human thing--some of us are.
Lastly, chastising those who poke fun at unenlightened vehicle makes/models, doesn't actually make the world a better place, so let's just stop pretending it does. The earnesty with which the crusaders emplore others to be more tolerant of subpar vehicles is just too much sometimes.

RX8 pwnz da stang in da twistezzes....If ur a good driver an you see a stang street race dem so you can pwn dem touge disaster style. Fo Shizzle.
I can't really see how apreciating a broad swath of cars is "inhuman." Furthermore, if you feel the need to "demonstrate" your ever more sophisticated tastes, aren't you just as bad as the people your complaining about. Its just as snobby. Also, the last time I made a "connection" with anyone by bashing an inanimate object was the 4th grade. Alliances were formed in heated debates over the virtues of the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. Many meaningful connections were made there for sure
