Thoughts on new 2012 Ford Focus?
News has been out for a few days...but still worth a post. Personally, they should work extra hard to get the new Focus here sooner than later to replace the pedestrian one out now.
I think both sedan and hatch look great. Interior looks good, less Transformer than the new Fiesta's dash. Ford is definitely on a roll. Makes GM's upcoming Cruze look cheap and boring. I'm sure they are worried. Hopefully they bring us some of the sport models we've been missing out on.
Lots of articles on it, but I like Autoblog:

Ford needs a new performance car. Maybe this engine: (of course the 4 cylinder)
A powertrain lineup that includes a 4-cylinder 2-liter engine with EcoBoost technology delivering 275 hp and 280 lb.-ft. of torque or, as a premium engine, a 3.5-liter V-6 delivering about 340 hp. Depending on engine selection, fuel-efficiency will improve by 20 to 30 percent versus today’s V-6 Explorer

I agree Ford needs an additional sports/sporty car to their lineup along the lines of when there was the Probe GT and Mustang GT. Not everyone wants a Mustang.

This is NOT the new focus, but the 2009 Focus RS. The best handling front wheel drive car in the world, according to many mags.

Since the previous Focus RS was based on a completely different (Euro Focus) platform, it wouldn't have been worth Ford's trouble to import. But since the new Focus will be the same worldwide, there's nothing really from stopping them next time around.

I have to give it to them,Ford is getting better in there designs. But like Tweek said,FWD FTL!
I hope Ford bring out that smoking hot RS Focus, that would stir things up rather nicely in the compact car market.

FWD is extremely efficient. Being that the non sport models are commuter cars it makes sense to carry over the same platform unchanged. Adding awd to a chassis thats designed to be fwd is very expensive and heavy. Case in point r32

i think it looks awesome. the taillights on the sedan are huge, but overall the flow is very nice i think. the car looks MUCH more upscale than anything else in that clas. the mazda 3 is close, but to me this is edgy but clean...the 3 is edgy...then even more edgy and looks weird from some angles.
i'll be in line to check out the hatch when it comes out. 2 dogs now...need something efficient with cargo room!!

I actually love it, I think its a nice refresh, I love the fact that FNA and FEuro have are now under Europe's design house(Kinetic design language), so if there was ever a time for us to see an RS or ST variant now is that time,,,
Two things I would love to point out that are awesome,,, The Interior, is stunning, and powered by Fords MyTouch II which in a few years may migrate to Droid OS,,,,
