Thumbs up Toyota FR-S coming to USA/Canada as production version of FT-86 concept

from FT86club.com

The biggest question surrounding Toyota’s awesome FT-86 concept isn’t if the car will make it to production, but what it will be called. That mystery may have just been solved, with word that Toyota Motor Corporation has just filed a trademark for the “FR-S” name in both the U.S. and Canada.

The name certainly makes a lot of sense, with “FR” standing for front-engine, rear-wheel drive, while the “S” presumably being used to indicate that this is in fact a sports car. Like the FT-86 Concept’s name, it’s also a throwback to the Corolla AE-86 that inspired it.

uh, if with that logic we'd only have like 3 car names...

FR
FF
RR
maybe FM for mid-layouts

anyway, cool news, but idiotic naming logic.

chevy should adopt this... instead of the camaro, we'd call it the FR-S. But that only covers one model... so I guess it would be the FR-S and the FR-S-SS?

It makes perfect sense. All the cookie cutter commuter cars would all be badged FF-C or FF-H (hybrid)

Where it gets complicated though, is with stuff like this...MFR-RS-MT-GT-WWP

(Mid front engined rear wheel drive rotary sports car manual transmission grand touring package white water pearl)

Mazda would have to do an extra variable for the pistons... and they might as well follow their numbering system.

ex: RX-8 = FRR-S8

and of course: FRR-S8 S2 (series 2)
