Twincharging

i know it sounds like a stupid idea but it has had a couple of applications, most recentley for the soon to be released VW Golf GT which uses super and turbo-charger on a 1.4 withdecent performance and economy.
i also know this type of setup was used on the Lancia Delta S4 group B rally car where the supercharger was used at lower engine speed before the turbo kicked in higher up the range. now i know they used some sort of bypass valve so that as airflow increased at higher speedds a bypass valve moderated the change between the two 'chargers and was meant to be extremely smooth transition.
my question is what type of bypass valve was used and are these types still avaliable today? (not that im building such a system ,as im only an 18 y.o. student who doesnt have a car....yet )

remember the Mcguires(sp?) integra?? that one was twincharged and put out 315hp. they said it was very difficult to manage and to maintain.

i'll have to dig up some more info on that bypass valve they used on that car

ive heard about the scooby but not the integra. but i do know the s4 was a 1.8 and with the twincharger system prduced 450bhp!!!
i know one company in the US, website: www.forcedairtech.com, do this type of kit but it only produces around 440bhp and v.expensive tho for actually developing it is pretty impressive.

Local guy here has a home brew twincharger setup on his CRX. He's an engineering student and is just trying stuff out. Hell of an autocrosser and track driver too. He is rebuilding the setup for next season. I just met him a couple months ago and he has quite the setups and designs!

Its a 1.8L and he is putting it into a Civic hatch over the winter. The twin charged set-up is relatively simple (for him). The supercharger takes care of low end torque and spools turbo instantly. As soon as specified boost is reached a by-pass opens directly into intake manifold and all boost is created by turbo with the supercharger disengaged. No lag, just smooth linear power on demand (250-350whp depending on boost level) and it still gets 30+ mpg highway with 550cc injectors. Its a Jackson roots blower and a home built turbo kit. I emailed him for some pics. Riding in it you cant tell, it feels like a large displacement motor with lots of low end grunt but it just keeps pulling till redline.

wortho - is that an old Rover 6R4 in your avatar? I love those old Group B cars! Did you actually see that car run or is it just a pic?

Hey, flip that pick sideways and you pretty much have Marc's Civic. Roots blower on the back and the turbo hanging off the front.

my fave grp b car was the Lancia 037 it just looked so good and could still beat audi with only a supercharged 2.0l and rwd
