Update on my mustang (pics)

I don't know if I have mentioned it on this board or if anyone cares but I have been slowly restoring my mustangs exterior to make it look new with fixing alot of the body and putting some high quality paint on it.

I began by stripping the car and doing a a load of body work. I didnt have a working camera then so I dont have any pics of the bodywork. I did have to shave the door lock on the passenger side because an ******* broke into my car via a crowbar to steal a $50 CD player, so a sheetmetal patch was cheaper than rebuilding the lock area and rekeying a new lock. Once everything was straight I layed down 3 coats of Matrix 2K high build primer.

After the primer was layed down I blocked the entire car in 180-320-400 grit.

Then I Layed down 3 coats of Matrix BC and 3 coats of Matrix MS-42 clear.

Now I am preping the Saleen Urethane pieces to be painted with the system as well. I am also collecting up all the supplies so I can sand the clear with 1500-2000 grit to remove any orange peel and grit. Then I will be compound buffing the finish to bring out the shine.

This was all done in a small single car garage with a $100 Devilbliss Gun and 33 gallon compressor. I will post up the finished project in a few weeks, and then ill have 700 hp of fury back on the streets.

New headgaskets, my motor doesnt like 10.5:1 compression and 11 psi but I sure do.

Looking good. I'm impressed by your dedication to doing it yourself, I don't think I could do it.

Very impressive. I've always lusted after the mustang. I owned a 2002 GT. Can't wait to see your finished pics. Good luck finishing your project.

3:73, which was good when I had only 450hp now with 650hp its way to steep. I have to shift into 3rd by 60 mph. I cant even floor it till 4th gear without killing myself.

It's a Ford motorsport B-50 Sportsman Block that has been bored .030 over and stroked to a 347 or 5.7 liter. Bottom end consists of an eagle forged crank, JE flat top forged pistons, and forged eagle H-beam rods.

Heads are Trick flow aluminum with a 170cc intake with a 61 cc combustion chamber with upgraded valvetrain (i.e. springs, retainers, rocker arms). Full 2 1/2" exhaust (no cats). The intake manifolds are from a cobra and have been ported.

Full system consists of an intank 190 lph and a inline 255 lph. Injectors are 42# or 440 cc's and I am currently running a FMU to keep it rich enough. TB is 65 mm and Im using a Pro-M 75mm mass air.

Supercharger is a Procharger P1-SC with a 3.05 pulley (11 Psi peak) also a FMIC and Vortec Bypass valve go with that. You can here the blower whine and bypass valve venting from a city block away, my neighbors hate me.

Update!!

For those who have been following my project. I was able to put the car back together, I cut and buffed the clear coat, and applied the Saleen Graphics.

I layed down the Duron PPG basecoat last night for the spoiler (my garage is a nightmare right now, look at the dust)

Three coats of MS-42 Clear will finish her up.

I also just put on some 295mm KDW 2's on the rear.

Also I gutted a steering column from a 03/04 cobra and will be installing it sometime this/next week.

Even though i'm not a fan of that bodystyle, you've done a terrific job so far.

I'll definetely will be going to the drag strip in the next month or two, Im having a hard time getting the 10-11psi to run conisently without detonation in the 3k-3.5k range. I would put a .08 copper gasket to lower the compression a point, but I just have no energy to rebuild the top half of the motor when it hasn't blown up. If I have to Ill run 5-6 psi and go back to the 450 rwhp tune. On low boost I'd shoot for a 12.2-12.5 in the 116-120 mph range (BFGoodrich KDW2). I'll post some videos up if I can get someone to go with me and run the camera.

nice project. impressive to see what you have done since June.

I didn't understand a word of your engine specs, but I'm sure you like typing all that up and it makes me curious, so right on.

Car looks great man.....impressive. I could never do the body work on my rebuilds.....never had the touch. I do all the mechanical portions and leave the body work to the pros.

One of these days I'll take a few body shop courses. Keep up on those updates with pics.....and get to the track!

Nice Job. I worked a body shop as a teenager.(color sanding/buffing) I know how hard that is. Looks great! Not a mustang fan myself, but a fan of a good paintjob for sure.
