I hope I'm not getting off topic, but have you guys seen this video yet. They're not racing at the Ring, but at Tsukuba.

Yea that ACR is sick. Im wondering if this guy could have posted even better times had he not missed as many shifts as he did. Had he made a run without missing any (which is prob hard as **** im sure) the time would have been even better. Couldnt imagine driving that thing in traffic...

Its just a viper with more power, a set of KW coilovers, better brakes, Michelin Pilot PS2's, functional body kit, and a roll cage... lots of people in this forum have all those modes (sans the roll cage) on their daily drivers

Alot of people state the zr1 and viper have brute force while the gtr is technology, but the gtr does have north of 500hp probably (especially the one that ran the ring). How is that not brute force as well?

you just said it. does the gtr have a functional body kit on its car? i am not downing the Viper acr. its great that it broke the production car time. It should of. i mean you just said, it has a fully funtional body kit. so i am not understanding why ppl are jumping for joy that it beat a GTR that really doenst have a funtional body kit. just weight reduction.

I am not defending the GTR, but i want to see some thing almost compariable to the viper. I mean if you go to all the car review sites, and they all say the VIper ACR is barely Street Legal, and its more like a Track car then anything else. It only makes me wonder if this was a fair comparision. We have one car with 600hp, 540 Toruque with a HUGE GT WING for downforce, vs a car with 300 pund weight reduction, 524 hp (torque i dont remember) with almost stock body with hardly any aero kits on the car it self. .

Ok...

A Saleen S7 produces over 3,000 pounds of downforce from its functional underbody ground effects at 150 mph. The Viper produces a 3rd of that. Both are completely streetable. Tuning aerodynamics takes months and years of wind tunnel testing and computational fluid dynamics... its not for the faint of hart.

Hey, Nissan spent years in the wind tunnel sculpting the GT-R shape and smoothed out the undercar flow to elimate lift... its not Dodge's problem they didn't spent the extra time to make the car produce downforce. So for the record, yes the GT-R has a functional body kit as every performance car these days spends years of development in the wind tunnel of computation equivolant.

From "Motor Trend" - http://www.motortrend.com/features/p...cr_evo_mr.html

The Viper is all over the place. Pobst commented that, while he enjoyed the experience, he was constantly working the ACR through transitions. Ride quality is simply terrible, akin to riding a dump truck down a dirt road. And out in the real world, on the twisty roads sports cars are truly intended for, the Viper darts and hammers where other machines flow and glide. Shock and awe: 10. Finesse: 0.

For a car that does only slightly better than the GT-R in terms of numbers, the compromises are too severe.

It seems Detroit always ends up simply bolting on uncompromisingly stiff parts all over the place whenever they decide to increase performance.

Something comparable how about the fact that the GTR has AWD and all the other fancy stuff. Seam's to me that they each have the upper hand in one are or another. One of them just comes out on top at the end of the race and it does it all with raw power vs. high tech. I know it's hard to admit that an American sports car beat the all mighty GTR. Same arguments occurred on the ZR-1 vs. GTR ring times. All these cars are great and I would love to own either one. I am just happy that American muscle once again rules the road

It's a damn sports car who cares about finesse. If you want finesse get a BMW, this car isn't meant to be a daily driver it's meant to be a track car that you can drive to the track then drive it back. The only place the GTR outshines the ACR is that it is a great track car and a great daily driver. So yes as an all around car the GTR is better, but on the track we know who is King, at least for now.

well iguess you pretty much ssaid it. we shouldnt be comparing this viper acr to a GTR vspec. because the vspec can be used as a daily driver with out wanting to blow your brains outs. any how its friday i am out for the weekend. most likely will be evacuating this weekend due to hurrican gustav. any how take care all.

I guess it's a matter of...
a race car you can legally drive on the street or a street car that can hold its own with a race car on track?
I find the latter achievement more impressive, but you're right, the ACR is Ring King for now.

A short shifter refers to the distance it has to travel to change gears, not the physical height of the shifter.
A more appropriate name would be a "short throw shifter" because it decreases the throw between gears.
A lot of super cars have a similar setup. The idea is to have the stick shift close to your hands on the steering wheel so you can shift quickly, and return your hand to the wheel.
The Koenigsegg is a good example. Their shifter looks like a coat hanger in the middle of the car.
Also, the Murcielago, Saleen S7, Ford GT, and Carrera GT. They all have what seems like tall shifters, but the throw is short.

Interesting, so I was watching all three and here they are:

Nissan GTR Link

Corvette ZR1 Link

Viper ACR Link

I would love to have any of these cars but as a driver I would rather be in the ZR1 or the GTR the ACR seemed much more like a bucking bronco than a thoroughbred. I want the ZR1, but I still have to see the GTR in person.

Of the three, I'd pick the ZR-1, just because I think it probably is more fun to drive than the GT-R. I'd stay away from the Viper. It looks very unpleasant to drive.

It has an Air conditioning unit, cupholder, motorized adjustable mirrors, and motorized windows.

That interior sure looks more plush than a Lotus elise/exige's as well.

R-Comp tires make a difference but are still road worthy tires. Less than dedicated track cars drive can drive R-Comps in the streets too.

This is a fair comparison - dealer produced, street legal cars.
