They can't retune for the upper rpm...its a turbo sizing issue. There is some waste gate engagement, but its mainly because the turbo runs completely out of steam in past 5500. Basically its insufficent to handle the CFM requirements of the engine in the last 1,000 rpms.

Of course if you go to a hybrid turbo, or larger turbo, it'll hurt your low end, and then everyone will complain about that.

Basically have to choose your poison! Tons of low end, or tons of high end...you can't have both without a VATN turbo! $$$

I think Mazda needs to re-tune the car to allow the power to be spread across the rev range.

I have experienced the boost cut issue and I will be doing the recall very soon. All in all a great car NOT as fun as the RX-8 though.

I will posting a comparo for other owners who are considering trading an RX-8 for an MS6. There are PROS AND CONS to both cars and it really depends on the age and type of driver, where you live and how much you drive every week. TO FOLLOW.

Thanks for the info. Its a BIG change from the 8. LOADS of torque and power low down, then nothing at top. Its is completey the opposite of my previous car the RX-8. LOVE THE GRUNT, but miss the childish fun that the 8 had. Its like comparing a jet ski to a power boat. You know the boat is faster and has more power, but it does not turn as quick as the jet ski and its not quite as fun even though its slower.

I can vouch for the difference. Although sitting in this car, and walking around to look at exterior styling, it does flash me back to my 04 RX8 days with the interior appointments, and the front and back end, but it stops there. Load of torque, more luxury, more comfortable for long trips, and of course more power and better MPG. Also heavier and less fun to drive, but when you are cruising on the highway on the way to work, it means nothing. It's definitely a better daily driver/commuter car IMO, as well as being better then the STI in that regard. To me, this is NOT an enthusiast car at all, nor it should it be for any true enthusiast car owner. IT's just my opinion, but this is a top of the line Mazda 6, nothing more. That's not a disrespect, because the Mazda 6 is a great car, but you just can't put this car in a raw auto x, racing category.

I finally got a cdaily driver that matches my age now, because generally at 34 years of age, you won't find many who will drive around in boy toy racer STI as a daily commuter, unless it's a fun weekend racer car. Visiting clients, having meetings, and taking road trips, the STI wasn't what I would call enjoyable. I was the brunt of many jokes, but I never got offended, because I know this so called boy toy racer would smoke their cars.

With that said, I'm keeping a CLOSE eye on the 07 Limited coming out. I'm very frivilous, and enjoy spending my hard earned money. I will be checking that car out and test driving it when the time is allowed, and since it's more sophisticated and less boy toyish, it could overtake this S2K next summer, or with a next generation release. Then I can finally be down to one car as both fun and daily driver. It just has to look tame, and No wing. I just don't think there will be any deals on that car, and it will be overpriced and not worth it, but I pray otherwise.
