I like it, too. Not crazy about the idea of bringing back the name "Rabbit," but if they're going to do that, makes sense to at least "pay it off"—which this spot does, tongue in cheek, with wit and charm.

Well, the name change from Rabbit to Golf took place in 1985 when a total redesign was done, so maybe the Golf now becomes the Rabbit again for 2007? I'm gonna say through common sense that they decided to change the name back to Rabbit, since the car has been totally overhauled from the previous generation. What I wonder is, if the Golf name remains overseas?
As for the engine upgrade. That's pretty simple. They need more power and torque standard in the Golf/Rabbit 115hp vs 150hp, so the 2.0 is now being used for turbo models, instead of naturally aspiratedl models. Now with a n/a 2.5 liter, the car is no longer underpowered against it's competitors. Smart , and necessary move on their part.

The commercial is very clever!
I had two Rabbits in my past, one a diesel, gawd I hated that thing.
The other was totaled, a drunk in a big old Thunderbird pulled out in front of me. I drove home, he had to be towed. His insurance co was kind enough to totall mine out!

On the flip side, they renamed the Lupo (similar to a Golf, but much smaller, a city car) to Fox, which was the name of a unique Western Hemisphere design in the '80s that kind of had a resemblance to a Jetta.

I'm not a college girl, but I like fun melodies with whimsical lyrics. Used to have a '79 German Rabbit Diesel that got 48/60 mpg if driven conservatively (not much choice really). I've been wondering what kind of mileage a little turbo-diesel hybrid could get. But don't listen to me, I used to like the Audi Fox too.
