It only makes sense to progress into something that does not call on me to drive like a chinese jet pilot.
Keeping the engine on constant boil, so that the power is there when I need it, using lots of gas pedal to ensure I am accelerating faster than all the other cars, neglecting to upshift just in case I need to "punch it and go to warp speed" in an instant. It is a high strung vehicle that needs a trigger finger driving style.
So, I will probably go with something more relaxed in the second half of my life. Probably downsizing to a nice 2-seater coupe just so I can take it easy and not be forced to wail on everybody with a rotary. They can't take the punishment.

Havnt replaced it yet, but considering moving to an 05-09 Mustang GT or possibly an 11' base model with the suspension upgrade.
I had wanted to get one when I first got the 8, but couldn't afford it. Im sure Ill miss the handling of the 8, but a usable trunk & some torque might be nice to have

Replacing mine with 2 cars. 1969 Jag E type coupe (weekend/good weather car) and a 2010 Mini Cooper (daily driver with good gas mileage for my 90 mile RT commute). I'd keep the RX-8 if I had the space but the Jag gets my only garage spot.

Recently moved back to rural Ohio area and let me tell you...NOT the greatest place to own and drive an 8 thats for f'en sure. Im scared to take the damn thing out 3/4 of the time...if its not the shitty roads, its the shitty weather, bugs, ect...And i WILL NOT drive my baby in the snow/sleet/rain, i just wont.
Im really gettin interested in the jacked up, JEEP culture around here. Live in hillbillyville, might as well join the hicks! Be fun in the Winter and off-road fun in other months. Myabe just get an older Cherokee to jack up, and keep both, i dunno...

^***.
Just kiddin. Replaced mine with an '09 Speed3, so I'm still in the family too. Unless I come into lots of $$, I won't be getting anything else soon. I'm almost 40 so I have to learn to keep my toys a little longer and not chase after shiny and new all the time.

Finish paying my car off in less than a year so debating to trade it in or to keep it and make it a lifelong project car. But my next car is either gonna be a evo X, Audi S5, or a 996 turbo....those kinda depend on what kind of money im making in next year

Not ever replacing the 8. But when i trade in my mazda 3, it will be for a hatchback version of the STI, or what ever mazda puts out for their next rotary (be like waiting for hell to freeze over)

When I replace the 8, it'll be with a 2011 Camaro SS. I've lusted over that car since it was a concept.

I think you're doing it wrong. Buddy has an 06 GT and gets the exact same city/highway mileage as me....

RX8 Replacement
I thought I'd keep the RX8 4ever but I eventually got tired of being out gunned by family sedans at the stoplight.
I traded the rx8 (2004 GT red with all options) because I cold not sell it at 10,000.00
I got 8500 trade and bought a 2010 Camaro
OMG,OMG,OMG
I love torque!!!
There's no comparison. 4.6 seconds vs 6.5 to 60mph!
This thing hauls and it looks great.
I fell in love with it at the 2007 autoshow and had to have one.
Of course it handled like a schoolbus when compared to the RX8, but I fixed that with lowering springs, swaybars and body bushings
I even drove it all winter and it handled 6 " snow with no problem (good winter tires)
I will always love the RX, but Mazda lost my business.
I would have bought a new 2010 RX8 with a turbo/blower and a light refreshing of the look (NOT the stuping grin front end they added already from the 3).
Oh well,
I'm happy now, but I'll always miss this great car!

Not exactly a car but ever since I purchased one of these Kona Jake CX bikes, I've driven my rx-8 less.
But to truly replace my RX-8.... Audi R8. Otherwise why bother? I've yet to come across a sexy car that can handle so well with an interior that doesn't beat me up. But in all likelihood, if my current 8 were to be stolen or destroyed in an accident, I'd head straight to my local Mazda shop and deal up for an R3 in White.
