I remember going into brand new (unpaved, unbuilt) neighborhoods with my dad's old cars and rumbling around since there was nothing to hit. That's how I learned to drive an automatic. Those were the days.

learned to drive automatic? there is no learning...you get in, look at the markings on the shifter and you know....its far from rocket science. the first car i drove that was automatic was my parents 1998 toyota camry. i hated it. i was so used to manual...it was boring(even compared to my 3 cylinder geo metro that was manual) and i found my left foot was tensed up the entire drive pushing against the dead pedal with all its might. haha.

LOL my dad used to have that car... Except it was a 1991 Ford Tempo. It was biggest pos ever.
His A/C never worked and sounded worse than FART CANS on the 20+horsepower Civic's...
Now he has a 1999 Green OLDS alero. That thing is awesome for acceleration

Wut da F Y'all lookin' @!
I learned on a few cars.
Originally a '89 Mitsubishi Galant and an '89 Cadillac Deville sedan. A little after I got my license...on one particular day a friend from school took me out in her Chevy Chevette and taught me the basics to driving manual. I honed my manual driving ability a little more in mexico on a rental VW Golf. Then I purchased an '88 RX-7 and finished the job.

First manual I ever drove was a 76 triump tr6, but that didn't go so hot. I really learned on my 88 Jetta.
EDIT: haha oops, I didn't realize we had a copycat automatic thread. As for the autos, I think it was a dodge caravan, I don't remember

The car I learned how to drive on was a manual 87' 200SX. The first automatic car I ever drove however was a 91' fastback 240 which was the reason I ended up purchasing my own manual fastback 240 later. MAN I miss that car........ kinda haha

Uh... this is the AUTOMATIC thread... Go make a MANUAL thread so you could talk about your "experiences" with those terrible choices of transmissions....

'86 Chevrolet Celebrity Eurosport - first car inherited from my parents - 4sp auto w/ like a 2.8 V6 I think - the tranny was a piece and this is what probably drove me to a permanent state of manual transmissions

These were the cars I learned to drive on at age 13-15, they are all family owned and I was taught in random parking lots
Brothers - 97 Lexus ES Auto
Brothers - 87 Corvette Auto
Other Brothers - 02 Corvette Z06 Manual
Brothers 03 350Z Manual
Then my Drivers Ed Camry Auto
Then I briefly owned a 350Z manual which I traded for:
A jeep Liberty which I owned for a year Auto then traded for:
Drumroll
My RX8.
Im a fairly young driver so its easy for me to put down all my history As you can see I learned to drive an MT early.

A 1970 Olds Vista Cruiser wagon. Believe it or not this was the Driver's Training class vehicle for my learner's permit. Learn to parallel park in that and you can park anything!

When I was 16, I first past the written test. My mom took me out in a parking lot in our 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser, to get myself used to turning, accelerating and braking before my 6 hours. Then I drove in the driving school's Mazda Protege. After my 6 hours, I drove either my Dad's 2000 Lexus RX300 or my Mom's 2006? RX350
