In what car did you learn how to drive a manual transmission?

Learned on a '79 Toyota Celica in about '92 or '93. When I got my license I would park and my friends would run away from the car so nobody saw them near it. I was a real POS. I loved it though. I just jumped in one day when I was 15 and my parents were out of town and drove it all around the Bay Area. I put about 300 miles on it in a weekend. My dad nearly kicked my *** when he found out. I told him some day we'll laugh about this. 15 years later he's still not laughing.

I learned on three cars: my driving instructor's 1981 Mazda 323, my mother's 1982 Honda Civic, and my brother's 1982 Lada 2106. Only the Mazda had a 5-speed manual, the other two were 4-speed manuals.
I later purchased the Civic and it became my first car.

yeah with 170HP with a 5 speed and a split rear end..... had to have been a bitch...
1988 Honda Accord with something like 98 hp at the flywheel.... further learning was done at a racetrack (b/c my uncle is an instructor) in a Z06 corvette and a stripped out Miata with just 2 seats in it....

Finally got road experience with the Vega GT.

I have a good one (and this is no lie)...
My father's 1974 Triumph Spitfire 1500. 4 Speed with an electric switch for overdrive. Only difference from this photo is that my dad's had white leather.

I learned in a civic si/sentra se-r spec v, but my actual practice really came when I bought my 8. The salesman was trusting enough to let me do it, so I said screw it.

Thats funny Mike, I had a similar experience. Had just learned how to drive on one of my buddy's civic, so we all went out that night. Drove from San Jose to SF to party, and all my friends ended up getting smashed. I was the least wasted, so was nominated to drive all the way back to SJ.
