What a day and an SRT-4
Well I was coming back from my dealer today about a crackesd fuse box in the engine compartment. Quick story short, well I was coming back and this SRT-4 paseing me for about 20min, with his blue dodge w/ black carbon hood and his black rims if it makes a difference, reving at me trying to race I started calling my buddies and laughing in the mirror at the furiouse dodge that is paseing me. Then he finally realized that I wasn't going to race him and he pulls a Uwwee.
Keep driving legal plz.

I drove the SRT-4 and I can say, yes it's quick. However, it's a bit of a beast. Driving it hard is kinda like riding a pissed off bull. I didn't find the ride stable or the steering accurate. Also, unless you were going full throttle, the turbo lag was horrible.
Fast? Yes. Pleasure to drive? Not in the least...
(Unless peeling out of the parking lot at high school every day to "impress" people is fun for you...)
Also, about the Red Line, I heard 200hp and 200lbft of torque. The New Chevy Cobalt is supposed to have a similar supercharged engine in the power range of the SRT-4, although probably not quite as powerful unless chevy has come to the realization fimally that there is money to be made with a hot sport compact.

SRT-4's are quick! Ride one and you'll enjoy the seat-press ride. I did not like the interior though coz of the wrinkly cheap pseudo-leather plastic thingamagiega. I think it's the best bang for the buck if you're into slingshot cars who want to keep more money for mods rather than paying it all to a stock car. For a FWD speed-beast, they can handle curves really well too.
If I was a serious race-buff, I would have the RX-8 for AutoX and Track, and mod out the SRT-4 for drag. Gutt it out, install crazy Mopar upgrades, better LSD, better shocks, drag wheels, etc.
I don't know what's the big deal with them going at RX-8's though. I mean sure we are in the RX-7 bloodline, but geez we have N/A setups here. They have a very light vehicle with powerful turbos on. It's no match on paper, it wont be a match on the street. Save your trannys and race someone in our cars' level (legally, not on the street). I guess most of them assume that we're boosted, so that's why they're so proud about smoking RX-8s. That and our cars are more panty-wetters than their's (which makes a win over us even better).

I drove one (srt4). It was very tempting for the money and practicality. Fortunately the seats were too narrow and it was too noisy on the highway so i skipped over it. The RX-8 (which I now own) has great moves to explore with its low center of gravity and rear drive. BTW, I dunno but I would still rather race and lose than not race at all. Its all fun...
ps. I have owned a few cars that were great deals (like the srt4) and it was obvious to everyone why you bought them, which is ok in my book. But! ... One of the great things about the RX-8 is that its pretty cheap if you dont option it up, yet people dont think you bought it because it was affordable.
pss. the real siren song is that dang evo... what a fun car... blows the neon away...

Still runs 14.0's @ 100+ in the 1/4. That's pretty fast, dude. I HAVE to believe Chrysler did their homework and really kept reliability in focus when they built that car... That 2.4l has not been the best motor.

Long time ago, Dodge brought out the GLH Omni. VERY fast 1/4 times.
Drove one at an AutoX-absolutely AWFUL.
If you want to build a car to impress the numbers matter crowd-be my guest.
If you want to drive a car that has some finnesse, try an 8.
Like the differnce between a rapier and a broadsword

If I read SCCA rules right the Forester XT is in the same class as SRT-4
I knew guys in the 1980s who would look at SCCA solo classifications before the season started and run a car that was formidable in its class.
Just an observation

It is a real shame to see people bash a car they have never driven. They see a front-wheel drive, dodge neon and automatically think it is crap. That is just being a badge snob. The engine is amazing; they can take up to 500 HP on the stock block. The seats, IMO are pretty damn good. I can see them being too aggressive for some, but they do a good job for what they are intended to do. The last thing is FWD. Obviously, RWD is better, but people are making it out to be much worse than it is. The SRT engineers did a good job keeping it as neutral as possible, and with the 2004 they added LSD, which made it even better.
So for all of you who criticize blindly, go drive it with an open mind and if you truly don't like it, then you are entitled to your own opinion. IMO, it is the best car in its price range (the evo is 7 grand more).
