What do you think of the Volvo C30?

Though the 260hp(5500rpm) and 268lb-ft of torque (2100rpm) will probably be reserved for the top of the line model, it's a nice looking hatch, with room for 4 and probably the world's best factory audio. My C70 had the Dynaudio 10 speaker system and nothing compares to it. I'll seriously consider it when it hits the market. Particularly if there's an R version.
I must admit that I'm a big fan of Volvos for some reason, and I like this hatch.

It's FWD, and as far as Volvo goes, it is unlikely to be any great shakes.
Americans don't know about these, but they were relatively popular in the UK - this was mine:
The 1.7 or 2.0 (2.0 in this case) Volvo 480. Notice any family resemblances to the C30?
As it was, the 480 was quite poor when compared to competing products.
(Those wheels weren't standard - that car would now be 14 years old, and 16"s were quite unusual then in the UK).

That C30 is probably the sexiest Volvo I've ever seen. I would definitely consider that car for my next ride....as long as the 260hp engine is an option and not just a tease.

I just read a (p)review of it, and I'm laughing.
See the Volvo 480 I posted before.
Volvo are determined to skip that car from their history. C70, sure, that existed (and a HORRID thing it was in Cabriolet form, too). P1800? Yes, of course! Even though it rusted like no other Volvo.
But the 480? "Er.... no.... you must have us mistaken. Look! A Monkey!" *sound of running marketroids*
Thing is: The 480 wasn't a bad car. It had a sophisticated electronics system that offered some advanced tricks like total closure, wipers that switched from intermittent to fast when you booted it (as if you were passing a truck in the rain - quite useful in that one situation), synchronised front and rear wipers.
And, quotes from the C30 article that could apply to the 480 and are seemingly implied as "firsts"...
"A car marketed at childless young urban professionals, who wanted a compact, premium car with rear seats (my 1992 480 had leather, a sunroof, and aircon - very, very unusual in a British car"
"traditional Volvo shoulder line"
"the C30's defining feature, the deep glass tailgate"
"Flamboyant shaping of lights a bold departure" (what, like popup headlights weren't?)
"Two individual rear chairs"
The glass tailgate in particular (but also the shoulder line) are two things that made the 480 stand out in a market dominated by the VW Scirocco and similar cars. It even had a really low sill, so visibility out of the back was astounding (and quite odd, too).

Here's a big bump of an old thread. It's mine so
Pre production prototype is out there now.

Looks like the power got bumped down a bit. 218hp/236tq. It'll be interesting to see how it matches up with the Gti.
