Is that a tree? Seems like it would have snapped before causing that much damage to the car. It’s not really that big of diameter. Kind of mind boggling.

On second thought, looks like it rolled, or was barrel rolling, before hitting the tree.

The tree appears to be a Beech, which is a tough hardwood tree. The small diameter also concentrated the forces on a narrow point on the car. Arguably at the weakest structural point of the car for that kind of impact. Not surprised it folded up like that.

Side impacts are no bueno. Side impacts with trees are muy no bueno. We lost an instructor a few years back when a late-model GTO went sideways into the trees at a much slower speed. Similar size tree went about halfway into the passenger side.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I due my small part in trying to convince drivers to keep 'motorsporting' on the track and not public streets. Causality in effect though. Blows my mind how tubers can blast around 1000hp cars (on video!) and not get caught up.

or if somebody does something they weren’t expecting and a collision results, because nothing rarely ever gets deleted permanently from the internet, at least not since maybe the very early days. There’s a lot of self induced liability in showing off your illegal antics that some people still don’t seem to grasp.

Of course the obvious solution is not to do highly illegal stuff, especially the kind that can result in tragic consequences for other people just innocently going about their business not endangering others. Not to say I was perfect in earlier life, but definitely have and support that thought process now.

I wouldn’t do that to my car, but maybe somebody else’s Camaro would be fair game.

I personally like the color and to his / her credit it appears as thought it was a half decent job. Always say it's better to have variety in life than be stuck with boring colors like silver, black or white.

Imho, that car well represents the average Rx8 owner of today. Purchased for cheap, plan to gut / rip apart then price gouge on used parts, garage is a mess / full of potentially other unfinished projects, tells wife "it's cheap and I'll race it babe!" Conclusion: adds yet another pile onto the pile of Rx8's being crap.

I've silently watched this awful trend unfold for years and seems to be primarily supported by those whose heart doesn't possess Rotary Spirit. I feel this type of 'build' will ultimately become the destiny of ALL Rx8's unless there's a shift in how we approach and appreciate them. We must strive to keep 8's on the road, RX powered and not hacked up track boxes fulfilling baby racer dreams.

Just a small rotary powered rant

Until RX-8 starts appreciating in value(may or may not happen, and no one knows when), it will continue. That's just what happens to an old, cheap sports car. It's the same with old Mustangs.

Now that I think about it, why are you complaining? Keep yours nice and it will appreciate as they get rarer. It's a win for people who don't abuse them.

There’s no point arguing with the FullTard brigade; that is way fugly and I’m going to assume it’s plastidipwad being flat like that, but anyone who would choose that color probably would likely also be dumb enough not to put a drop cloth on the concrete floor when using real paint. Don’t do that to your garage floor either. Although Federighi would probably try to excuse that away too.

What possesses someone to start that project, and then look at it half way and still go "yeah, this is turning out great, let's keep going"

Building it is one thing, and then driving it around in public is a whole other level.
