Love this video and how it outlines reality. Drive the road and conditions. If you’re pushing the centre line back off dummy. Same for zipping around slower vehicles or crowding those in front. The guy with the Ferrari is probably not safe anywhere. Where Jinx and I live speed limits are set by politicians not engineers. Whenever attempts are made to set appropriate speed limits the hysterical get involved.

I could easily make a HUGE list of pseudo auto-journalist (and tube wannabes) who break multiple laws while documenting their actions on camera. I think there needs to be an online crime division hunting offenders down. Personal feelings aside, it's easy to see what's right and just go to the track if you want to drive fast.

Twice as many highway fatalities occur on two-lane roads, according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The report reveals that 75% of two-vehicle, head-on collisions occur on undivided two-lane roads—and head-on collisions are disproportionately deadly.

And if there were anyone who's opinion / advice is relevant to the topic, I think this man is a good candidate (albeit not apples to apples).

the last thing we need in the country is more laws/.gov control. driving safety/laws are 100% about making money and the powers that be dont give a **** about how many people die while driving

Yeah that video is great. There is a part 2 as well where the guy expanded on the points he made before.

As I said, generally people who can afford a Ferrari can also hire lawyers to successfully defend them from speeding tickets. Realistically, it only just ends up hurting the locals and people who are having fun reasonably.

I just don't know how a system could be implemented in the real world so that it only catches the people that should be caught. At the end of the day, revenue generation and politician's own personal gain take priority and they are what ultimately decide whether or not enforcements will be added.

And speaking of race tracks, even that isn't exactly an easy option because extreme environmentalist nutjobs and local residents aren't generally happy to have more tracks around them. Every time I head to VIMC for tracking, there are always people giving out "warm welcomes" if you catch my drift. Again, the reason race tracks are really allowed is that they stimulate the local economy. If it's good for the economy then the protestors will get nowhere. That's just how it works in real life.

As someone who has at one time A.) irresponsibly and negligently operated a vehicle that nearly claimed the life of another human being on a 2-lane rural highway while driving above posted speed limits and B.) was almost killed by a drunk driver in a head-on collision on a different 2-lane highway, I can say with absolute certainty that the efforts in preventing the loss of just one life on the road will be worth it. I implore you to imagine if your mother, wife or daughter was lost and tell me how you'd feel about 'spirited' driving on public roads then. There's a time and place for everything and for driving fast it's at the track. Everyone wants to have their cake and eat it too, like 'It'll never happen to me, I'm the good driver' blah, blah, blah type reasoning. The arrogance of drivers who willingly gamble with the lives of the innocent by actively participating in dangerous behaviors today is astounding.

I personally couldn't stand the narrator in the video so I had to skim through it and will never understand what motivates people to create such a video. ??? And I thought I had too much time on my hands. Plus he was crying about the Police Dept's use of social media, methods, etc. If you're not breaking any laws then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Now to respond to some points. Please forgive their brevity. Yes, cops give tickets to create local revenue. Local tourism is good, yes. When driving on the Autobahn, moving with the approx 'flow of traffic' is the safest and appropriate rate of travel and that-that 'limit' is largely ignored, correct. Wealth was ultimately brought into the conversation as owners of 'finer' vehicles don't sweat a ticket or two / lawyer fees and for the most part I'd agree with that statement as well. Yes race tracks generate revenue but ultimately at the cost of the local's sanity plus an environmental impact, etc.

TL/DR I'm sure you're all familiar with what a 'governor' does. Simple solution would be to have pre-determined values (speeds) programmed into the vehicle. If you're on a XX mph road / zone, you literally cannot exceed. Everyone travels at the same pace and is essentially set to the same schedule. No one is more important than anyone else. I personally think all public vehicles should be EV and linked into a system something like I described above. It's 2021, technology is moving fast than ever before and there's a super computer in nearly every pocket across the globe. Hollywood had Americans believing we'd be flying cars and whatnot already. Sure the idea is a little minority report / i-Robot, but I'd rather see our civilization step towards potential sustainable future models rather than the antiquated ones. Without rules, there is no law. Law > anarchy. And for those who may be interested, F big brother. The less gov the better. What the world needs is more personal accountability imo and the reward for those who still wanted to explore the limits of their vehicle, there would be HPDE's for that.

Have a great day guys

Those statements are contradictory. That's what's known as "cognitive dissonance".

Also, legally you are allowed to go as fast as you need to pass someone on a single-lane highway(obviously, given that it's legal and safe to do so), so there is also that.

Well, then you shouldn't skim through the video. Watch the whole thing, and then reply. It's not even like the video is boring. Good humour sprinkled in between to keep you engaged.

Also, realize that the video is made by a fellow British Columbian. Meat Head and I both will tell you that our only provincial auto insurance company is literally a government-run monopoly, and it's nice that the creator spent the time he did to make the video. A lot of things said in the video can be easily applied to other places in North America, though.

The point in the video is that there should be speed limit, he made that super clear in the beginning, but it should be determined with science and engineering, not revenue generation. If the speed limit is actually based on the 85-percentile rule then yes, go ahead and put all the enforcement you need. Unfortunately, speed limit is often done with the revenue generation in mind. Also, the video brings up another excellent point: if saving people from speeding is actually the priority, don't hide. Make yourself visible. It's like this meme here.

Another thing about your argument is reflected in the video (again, maybe you should have watched the whole thing): "oh we should lower the speed limit or have more enforcement because of one idiot." What's not realized is that the one idiot wouldn't have done anything differently regardless of speed limit or enforcement.

I am not against enforcement, it's just that I can't think of an enforcement system that won't be abused by the government.

"Don't break any law and you are fine!", you say. Okay, so you are gonna stop drinking water if it's made illegal? You are gonna drive 10 mph on highways because that are the speed limit now? These are exaggerations, but the point is that law has to make sense to people.

Ironically, you say you don't like Big Brother, but Big Brother absolutely loves people like you. Gives them the perfect excuse to just make more BS to make more money. You are exactly the "but won't somebody please think of the children!" type of person the video talks about.

IMO they should have just made a sanctioned event for Tail of the Dragon every year. Maybe one already exists, I am not sure. Clear the road, have a disclaimer waiver, and if someone screws up, well it probably won't hurt anyone else and there will be emergency ready to respond. Having an outlet is better than draconian enforcement.

Hey BC - noticed rust on the brake rotor - don't do that to your car. Take it for a rip and remove the rust.

That one came off the LY.
I took it off to try and get the arm off of it, but the bolts were seized and I didn't want to spend too much time on it.
I used it on the WB because I didn't feel like beating on the hub to get the old ball joint off.
Rust is long gone.
